What’s it all about?

We are seeking an experienced corporate lawyer to support the organisation’s corporate development strategy and a variety of strategic and internal projects, reporting to the Head of Corporate Law. 

This role sits within a fun, supportive and hard-working Corporate and Commercial Legal Team, who together manage all corporate, commercial, employment, data protection and intellectual property legal matters for Visa in Europe as part of the Legal and Regulatory Division which includes Competition, Company Secretarial, UK Regulatory and EU Regulatory specialists. 

The Division has consistently had some of the highest engagement scores and prides itself on a creative, can-do approach.

The Corporate and Commercial Legal Team works at the cutting edge of new payment technologies, innovation and the fintech industry in an increasingly regulated environment, which brings unique and novel challenges.

What we expect of you, day to day.

  • You will provide legal advice and support relating to a wide range of corporate ventures, including mergers & acquisitions, minority investments, joint ventures, strategic partnerships, corporate finance and governance
  • Providing legal advice and support relating to general commercial matters and projects
  • You will draft, review and negotiate a wide range of contracts relating to the matters above
  • Identifying competition/anti-trust, data protection and other regulatory issues, you will be liaising with internal and external specialists where necessary
  • You will generally manage all legal requirements throughout the corporate transaction life-cycle, including due diligence and outside counsel
  • Recognise the strategic connections between matters and work pro-actively to ensure these are given appropriate attention for the benefit of the group and its overall management of legal risk
  • You will be responsible for management of day-to-day legal queries and business deals, taking the lead on all relevant legal activities
  • Developing, managing and maintaining relationships to facilitate the effective delivery of legal support working with other Visa departments across the globe to ensure full alignment with business needs and policies
  • You will provide training, to identified business areas, on law, processes and policies
  • You will proactively contribute to the Legal & Regulatory Division’s planning, cohesion, consistency in advice, and the general efficiency and effectiveness of the division as a whole

Qualifications

What we’re after…

  • Qualified senior level corporate lawyer
  • Demonstrable experience of corporate transactions at a leading City or large regional firm
  • Strong academics and training, including legal drafting and negotiating, and relationship management
  • Good understanding of working in an in-house environment
  • Appreciation of cross-border and multi-jurisdictional transactions and working with venture capital
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills along with a demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Previous experience of working within a technology and digital legal environment
  • Passion and knowledge of fintech and payments industry (and applicable regulation)
  • An active interest in improving the delivery of legal services within a large organisation and a record of successfully driving change
  • Experience of general commercial contracts such as client and supplier agreements, consultancy agreements, product development agreements and licensing arrangements
  • Ability to speak European languages is a plus
