Job Description

As the Chief Network Engineer, you will provide senior expertise and thought leadership to help drive the strategic development of the Network Processing Engineering team. This is a critical role within Visa’s network organization responsible for the planning, design, development, and maintenance of existing/future networks to deliver best-in-class network performance, availability and resource utilization, leveraging state-of-the-art networking technologies. You'll work with various leaders to coordinate network solutions to meet challenges of technology, regulatory, security, and competitive conditions.

This position reports to the Director of Network Processing Engineering team and is a key role within Global Network Engineering and Visa’s Global Infrastructure Network Services (GINS) organization  This is an exciting opportunity for a senior technology leader to make key contributions to Visa’s strategic vision for supporting existing technology and adding next-generation technologies. 

Job Scope:

In this role, you will provide senior technical leadership in several network areas of expertise (e.g. Direct Exchange (DEX), CyberSource, Commercial core networks, Commercial endpoints (MPLS and VPN), and will develop and execute new initiatives to drive growth, reduce cost, increase reliability and increase global synergy for Visa’s networks. You'll work collaboratively with other functional and technology areas of Visa and senior leaders to define and execute business priorities.

Responsibility and accountability across several key areas wil be yours including:

  • Providing subject matter expertise in interactions with partners and customers while collaborating on external and internal projects

  • Managing oversight of multiple highly complex technology solutions based on a combination of vendors, custom solutions, and internal resources

  • Collaborating with network engineering, network architecture, and network/security operations teams. Make recommendations on next-generation capabilities to support new business opportunities
  • Determining need and help develop new technologies and vendor solutions based on Visa’s network vision and strategy, leveraging the latest developments in the industry
  • Demonstrating extensive knowledge of Visa network environments and provide ongoing insight into these highly complex network systems
  • Planning, designing, implementing, and supporting network systems of high complexity in the commercial network environment
  • Providing network design documentation to project teams, peers, and network support organizations

  • Performing third-level support within Visa to resolve network issues and support the implementation of new network solutions

  • Building and maintaining relationships with global teams and third parties to address network development and support issues

  • Participating in the development, testing and QA functions to ensure project delivery

  • Working with the Information Security Office to ensure Visa security requirements are met, and provide technical assistance for investigation and analysis of security alerts

  • Providing recommendations to management team to increase effectiveness of organization and technology solutions

  • A Bachelor's degree is required for this position.  (A Master’s degree in Information Technology or Engineering is preferred.)
  • At least 5 years of experience in a network engineering design and/or support role
  • Demonstrated technical understanding of technologies, tools, and processes within the ecosystem of the network technologies, including (but not limited to) routing & switching, L4-7 traffic management (e.g. load balancing, DNS) and firewalls, across WAN, datacenter fabric and campus networks
  • Hands-on experience in designing and deploying large scale-out network technologies
  • Understanding of the fundamentals and latest innovations in Software Defined Networking (SDN) in the data center and/or WAN.
  • Excellent communicator and team-builder, capable of establishing trust and securing partnership with all levels of the organization, from engineers to senior executives
  • Extensive knowledge of IP networking and network hardware including proven experience with Cisco networking devices is required
  • Experience and expertise with IP routing protocols including EIGRP, OSPF and BGP. Knowledge of Cisco encryption technologies (IPSec, SSL), standby protocols HSRP and VRRP, and network address translation (NAT) experience is required
  • Experience administering enterprise IP networks in mission-critical, 24x7 production environments
  • Strong planning, organizational, and problem solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal, and leadership skills including effective communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Experience leading moderately complex cross regional projects, including planning, documentation, and implementation
  • Demonstrated ability to systematically troubleshoot problems in complex systems and network environments
  • Solid understanding of network and system security principles and techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and commitments in an environment that requires multitasking among multiple concurrent projects while also handling interrupts
