Job Description

Distributed Apps Operations is a globally distributed department of over 240 talented engineers within Visa’s Technology & Operations organization. We are The Last Line of Defense for Visa to deliver Visa Values to its stakeholders thru 600+ products and services that we maintain 24x7 to ensure every transactions matters and are always available on time with good quality.

The Production Support group prides itself in keeping the applications and systems of Visa up and running to cater to the 24*7 needs of the business. As part of the team – you will be responsible for supporting critical applications and ensure the stability of the applications by performing proactive maintenance activities, engage in automation activities, do root cause analysis and remediation. The role requires working knowledge of production support processes such as incident/change/problem management, call triage, escalation procedures and such. The role will also demand the ability to write and maintain scripts to monitor system activity including application smoke test activities during pre-and post-production implementations.

Must Haves:

  • 5+ years hands-on experience with 24x7 available production applications in large distributed batch data processing environment-involving petabytes of data

  • Strong technical knowledge in developing, testing and supporting applications in UNIX, ABINITIO, UDB, PDB, Shell scripts, Hive, Sqoop

  • 4+ years of experience in Performance Tuning, Data Fixing and Workload Automation.

  • Experience in monitoring and analyzing job logs.

  • Experience in code turnover using version control tools like CLEARCASE, GIT Hub and ENDEVOR.

  • Strong Team player and ability to collaborate as part of virtual team across the globe.

  • Strong analytical skill to analyze code, understand business rules and trace data following the process flow to investigate data related issues.

  • Join and participate in problem bridges collaborates with others from different functional and technical areas and escalates timely to get help to resolve problems within time.

  • Perform exports, backups and data extracts as required from different environments

  • A quick learner to learn new technology, application or tools and ability to cascade the knowledge to others.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to research solutions to various business and technical problems, evaluate alternatives and be able to present recommendations and justifications to management.

  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously and deliver on time with quality.

  • Strong process adherence to follow change, incident and problem management processes.

  • Flexibility to work in shifts and during weekends and extended hours when needed.

  • Strong sense of ownership and ability to retain focus under stress during crisis.

  • Strong business ethics, self-discipline and trustworthiness to handle sensitive confidential data in live production environment.


Nice To Have:

  • Developer’s knowledge in Spark, Java

  • Experience with DB, OS, and Web monitoring tools

  • In depth application knowledge similar to Visa

  • Certification in relevant technology areas

  • ITIL, Six Sigma or similar certification


Education Requirement:

A bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or engineering degree
