Job Description

What’s it all about?

This role will be supporting UK&I MD in delivering the Credit strategy for UK & I and deliver the data science capabilities to ensure that Visa’s credit proposition remains best-in-class. In addition to Data Science proficiency, the successful candidate will need to have a good understanding of the payments industry and the credit eco-system. He/she will be asked to develop and build data science solutions that will support the optimisation of credit business for Visa in UK, Ireland and other focus markets. 

The Senior Data Science Manager - Credit Growth is a key member of the Analytics team in the Europe region. As a Senior Manager, you will be accountable for leading the blueprint, development and delivery of analytics driven capabilities and solutions for Visa’s internal and external clients. In this role, you will work collaboratively with a multitude of internal functions and their senior leaders in promoting an evidence and insights-driven culture. You will be developing creative and cutting edge data science solutions, develop best practices to drive business performance with a clear commercial ‘value’ and measurable ‘return’.

What we expect of you, day to day.

  • Creating and delivering powerful business-centric insights from data through advanced modelling, visualization and storyboarding
  • Collaborating with the internal and external partners to understand business requirements and desired business outcomes
  • Project-managing the delivery of data science solutions and capabilities (defining detailed analytic scope and methodology, creating and executing the analytics plan, adhering to timelines and budget)
  • Identifying appropriate and deliverable data science techniques for a variety of business problems
  • Performing quality assurance on data science deliverables delivered by self and wider team
  • Creating and maintaining project documentation and ensuring that project artefacts are up-to-date
  • Enhancing existing analytic techniques by promoting new methodology and best practices in data science
  • Providing subject matter expertise and quality assurance of complex data driven analytic projects

Essential Technical Expertise

  • Proficient in the following data science techniques: Predictive Modelling, Data Reduction and Feature Engineering, Decision Trees, Segmentation and Classification
  • Execution proficiency in handing multiple medium to large analytic projects along with rest of the stakeholders in the Analytics team
  • Proven track record in designing, developing and implementing best in class analytic solutions
  • Hands on experience in working with and processing big data
  • Ability to solve business problems through data-driven quantitative methodologies
  • Define and design data science solutions to answer business questions and challenges 
  • Very strong project management skills and experience (Prince II or Agile)
  • Excellent understanding of data marts, data relationship concepts and data processing

Desirable Technical Expertise

  • Proficient in the following data science techniques: Supervised and unsupervised Machine Learning, Evolutionary Algorithms, Statistical Learning and AI approaches 
  • Proficiency and continuous skills development in leading edge analytic and business intelligence tools, Knime, SPSS, Tableau, Business Objects and MicroStrategy.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Java, Matlab, Pig or SQL
  • Knowledge of payment network transactional data is a plus
  • Define and execute quantitative and financial analysis for key clients
  • Fluency in one or more additional European languages; Italian, Spanish, German preferred
  • Experience working in one or more of the card payments markets in Europe
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate new techniques to solve business problems
  • Demonstrated resource planning and delivery skills

Business Experience

  • Proven expertise in applying statistical solutions to business problems
  • Results oriented with strong analytical, consultative and problem solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor
  • Strong business acumen with strong ability to solve business problems through data driven quantitative methodologies. Experience in consumer credit, payment, retail banking, or retail merchant industries is preferred
  • Experience building and cultivating teams
  • Team oriented, collaborative, diplomatic, and flexible working and communication style.
  • Experience in presenting ideas and analysis to stakeholders of all levels; able to communicate technical information to non-technical audience with the ability to tailor data driven results to various levels of expertise
  • Real attention to detail with proven ability to produce highest level of quality/rigor in reports & data analysis
  • Proven track record in translating analytics output to actionable recommendations, leading to delivery and value realisation
  • Exhibit intellectual curiosity and strive to continually learn
  • Deep understanding of Payments and Banking Industry including Consumer Credit, Consumer debit, Prepaid, Small Business, Commercial, Co-Brand and Merchant
  • Deep understanding of data, market intelligence and business intelligence tools and technologies
  • Deep understanding of data, market intelligence and business intelligence tools and technologies

Qualifications

What we’re after…

  • Flare for data science, analytics, lending and credit, and in particular payments

  • Graduate / Post Graduate degree (Masters or Ph.D. preferred) in a numerical field (e.g. Statistics, Mathematics, Operational Research, Computer Science, Economics, ... ) or equivalent experience

  • Strong working knowledge of SAS and one of R or Python
  • Strong working Knowledge with Hadoop and Hbase/NoSQL
