Job Description


This position will provide strategic leadership and direction to Compliance Training, Communications and legal and regulatory Compliance projects and initiatives.  This position will lead the Compliance training and communication that impacts 17,000+ employees in coordination with Visa University and Corporate Communication teams.  The position will design operational objectives and work plans with Risk Department to ensure Compliance Risk Assessments, Monitoring and Testing activities under their management are successful and properly aligned with  Global Compliance’s objectives.  This role will provide thought leadership to global functions including Marketing, Sales, Sourcing, Product, Technology, HR and Finance to assure robust compliance risk management and compliance controls for those groups.

This position is a direct report to Visa’s VP – NA, Anti-Bribery and Compliance Management.

Core Responsibilities:  

Leading Training and Communication

  • Provide content oversight and coordination of the Substantive Compliance Area policies, teaming with the Visa University to ensure compliant, user friendly, and highly effective compliance training strategy and delivery

  • Ensuring that the substantive compliance policies are being effectively communicated to, and tools leveraged by, the appropriate associates, leaders, and functions

  • Oversee participation by Visa in World’s Most Ethical Companies, Corporate Secretary, and other external assessment and industry benchmarking exercises

  • Lead development and submission of performance reports and updates for:

    • Corporate Risk Committee

    • Audit & Risk Committee Update

    • Ethics & Compliance Working Group

  • Manage Compliance Communications & Reporting Calendar

  • Coordinate All Compliance Staff Meetings


    Compliance Initiatives and Project Management

  • Develop project management plans and execute against such plans pertaining to emerging compliance issues as identified by Legal and Chief Compliance Officer (i.e. changes in payment card industry’s laws and regulations) to ensure proactive mitigation is timely implemented

  • Design reporting mechanism on compliance project management and related activities to monitor progress and completion milestones

  • Develop, update, and communicate substantive compliance policies to ensure continued compliance throughout organization

  • Create and track compliance program metrics to deliver accountability and ensure effective use of compliance tools  

  • Identify gaps in compliance awareness, policies, and tools and build countermeasures and sustainable and effective processes to close those gaps; continuous improvement of compliance tools and other processes involving compliance policies and programs  

  • Assist in the training of third parties (i.e. intermediaries and other high-risk agents) as appropriate   

    Substantive Global Compliance Program Areas Leadership and Oversight

  • Coordinate the annual review of the scope of Substantive Global Compliance Program Areas with the Risk organization

  • Manage the annual assessment of Policy and Training translation requirements and apply them to the Substantive Global Compliance Program Areas

  • Review and, as applicable, provide comments to Policy updates pertaining to the Substantive Global Compliance Program Areas

  • Review and monitor audit issues related to the Substantive Global Compliance Program Areas; Communicate these to the applicable Program Owners or Delegates as needed.

  • Maintain accessibility and conduct reviews in support of Compliance Risk Assessment and Validation efforts, such as mitigations, work papers, risks, and procedures

  • Oversee the legal and regulatory Compliance Policies, collaborating with the subject matter experts and Legal to ensure all Policies continue to meet all legal and regulatory requirements globally

  • Lead High-Risk discretionary projects as determined by management



  • 12+ years of Compliance, Governance, Project Management, Internal Audit or Audit experience, preferably with a large financial institution or Big 4 Accounting / Consulting experience preferred

  • Significant experience in evaluating Regulatory Policies / Corporate Programs associated with complex business and IT systems process

  • A creative self-starter with high ethical values and possesses both strong technical and interpersonal skills; a team player and leader who is willing to go the extra mile for the team’s and company’s best interest

  • Possesses a positive, solution and value-based leadership style that energizes the Policy/Program Owners, Legal, vendors and other stakeholders in collaborating on the development and delivery of Compliance Training and awareness communications.

  • Strong hands-on experience with a proven track record of successfully managing multiple projects and system implementations in a complex matrix business and operational environment, including handling both intra regional and regional/HQ relationships 

  • Excellent knowledge of Legal and Regulatory requirements (i.e. Anti-Bribery, AML, Information Security, Privacy) for Payment Card Industry and a Public Company

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, Accounting, Management Information Systems or related field

  • PMP, CISA, CIA, CISM, CPA, Six Sigma, or other relevant professional certification highly desired

  • Capable of working collaboratively with employees from all levels within the organization; flexible to work in an environment where needs are continually changing

  • Excellent analytical and data analysis skills including use of MS Office systems including Word, Access, Visio, Excel (advanced), Power Point, SharePoint and other applications

  • Excellent and professional written, presentation and communication skills
