Job Description

The Sr. Director, Technology Portfolio Governance will be responsible for leading the governance and oversight of Technology’s Innovation Portfolio including management of all aspects of driving transparency and visibility to overall portfolio health across scope, schedule and budget components such as project and program management, financial planning and tracking. The ideal candidate brings a strong project execution background who is looking to elevate his/her role and leverage his/her experience to mentor others and to ensure Visa has strong governance and oversight across our global portfolio; ensuring we are effectively delivering on our commitments within scope, schedule and budget.  Where there are issues in delivery execution, the ideal candidate will foster an environment where project delivery teams feel comfortable and supported in raising issues for awareness and to ask for help. This position interacts with many cross-functional stakeholders, including various Technology teams, Finance, and business function leads. This position will report to the Sr. Director of Technology Portfolio Management. Key responsibilities include:

  • Partner with key Technology and cross-functional stakeholders to champion best practices and to ensure Visa’s key programs and project activities are:

    • Managing project and program risks and issues, and that they are surfaced appropriately for awareness and assistance as needed

    • Interacting with executive management on program updates & decision making

    • Tracking project, program and portfolio budgets, forecasts and schedule

  • Build in-depth knowledge of portfolios, especially any high-visibility programs/projects, in order to detect potential project/program risk and to challenge and assess reasonableness on any program/project health (i.e. scope / schedule / costs) status to strength governance.

  • Provide leadership, coaching, direct training to cross-functional teams and stakeholders on best practices in applying Visa’s product delivery frameworks for Agile and Waterfall initiatives to deliver high quality features within scope, schedule and budget commitments while ensuring proper governance during execution.

  • Proactively work with project managers / PMOs to assess areas of data quality concerns and ensuring proper PMM governance, including connecting stakeholders to raise awareness and facilitate collaboration to identify the path to resolve any “red”/”yellow” status issues.

  • Deliver meaningful Executive-level reporting that brings insights and transparency into overall portfolio health spanning $700M annual investment across 300 programs.

  • Continuously offer recommendations to improve Technology Portfolio Management reporting and challenge status quo to remove stakeholders’ pain points while ensuring proper governance.

  • Demonstrate skills in conflict management and negotiation to achieve program goals and develop trust with stakeholders.

  • Manage through influence, but without direct management authority.  Use capabilities to influence customers and stakeholders, and properly manage divergent expectations.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Computer Science or a related field. Advanced degree a plus but not required.

  • Experience in the Payments and/or Technology industry

  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFE), Certified Scrum Master and/or PMP certification preferred. Lean Six Sigma, or similar certification a plus.

  • Demonstrated track record of 10+ years of in managing technically complex, cross-organizational, multi-stakeholder programs or activities. Experience working within technical teams and projects required.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills with an attention to detail.  In particular, an ability to effectively communicate technical and business issues and solutions to multiple organizational levels internally and externally as needed.

  • Solid analytical and problem-solving; ability to think strategically.

  • Comfortable with one or more reporting systems such as SQL, Excel, MS Access and Analytics tools such as Tableau, Power BI, OBIEE, etc. to develop dashboards
