Job Description

  • Under the guidance & direction of the Marketing Head for South & Southern Africa, this position is responsible for the end-to-end planning, implementation and execution of the Visa marketing strategy for select markets in South Africa and Southern Africa.  The role will have specific Geo responsibilities as well as Client responsibilities. This covers all business priorities; including Client marketing, Cross-Border, E-Commerce, Premium-and mass market offerings etc. as well as Visa brand management for the geography. 

  • Identify opportunities in the market through tracking of key payment trends, cardholder behavior, etc. and evaluate them to create strategic recommendations for future business propositions.

  • Develop and implement integrated marketing campaigns and programs to build the Visa brand and achieve agreed geography marketing and client and business objectives. Partner with merchants and clients in the region in the creation of acquisition and usage campaigns, provide opportunities for banks leveraging of Visa campaigns & work with both internal and external stakeholders to develop joint marketing campaigns.

  • Develop; co-ordinate and implement strategic marketing and communication plans designed to meet client marketing objectives as well as market related objectives in support of realization of country scorecard.

  • Responsible for marketing consulting efforts for Visa’s clients

  • Apply analysis of card payment trends, market opportunities, cardholder behaviour to digital/social marketing and plan in order to make strategic recommendations on future business direction.

  • Continually monitor existing and potential competitor marketing activities to identify new opportunities or highlight potential causes for business concern. Feedback and update as appropriate and recommend strategies and solutions



Develop marketing strategies and plans for the respective markets and allocated clients that address key market opportunities or needs

  • Develop, co-ordinate and implement strategic marketing and communication plans designed to meet market requirements. 

  • Work to retain and grow Visa´s client business by delivering marketing solutions that maximize revenue and profitability for assigned products and services

  • Manage and prioritize the clients marketing budgets to align Visa´s product, marketing and sales strategies and objectives with client needs by effectively selling in Marketing Value Added Services (MIK)

  • Manage the execution of client initiatives supported by Marketing Value in Kind (MIK) budgets

  • Develop and implement integrated client marketing plans for top clients in Tier 1 markets on a yearly basis and update quarterly as appropriate

  • Manage the allocated budget for the geographies and ensure all marketing activity is performed within agreed parameters.

  • Drive Visa sponsorship strategy by leveraging Global properties like FIFA and Olympics to drive client business. Identify and execute local sponsorship opportunities in partnership with client banks and merchants

  • Establish strong partnerships with internal teams to assist in the delivery of marketing initiatives within the geography and add value to pursuit of profitable business opportunities. 

  • Effectively manage all stakeholders responsible for the successful implementation of a campaign including agencies, suppliers, merchants and banks and others as appropriate

  • Provide quantitative post-campaign and regular performance analysis in due time and incorporate learnings into future projects.


  • Provide input to management team and stakeholders to influence development of marketing strategies and program development


Other responsibilities

  • Manage the budget plan processes for Marketing spend in the geographies, liaising with Finance partners to ascertain spend against forecasts.  Provide Head of Marketing with timely updates and status on marketing budget position on monthly basis.

  • Act as the Visa brand guardian by ensuring all activities comply with brand guidelines and ensure all global Marketing policies and procedures are adhered to. 

  • Share best practice and successful programs within Visa Marketing community.

  • Ensure key stakeholders are fully informed of all campaign activities.

  • This is a critical role in developing and implementation of effective strategy re issuers client activities and impact

  • Clients NPS and other KPIs are developed at client-by-client level

  • Accountable for all joint marketing activities organization, administration and implementation


  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field with a marketing foundation   

  • Excellent performance in marketing planning and execution (at least 5 years’ experience at Marketing Management level)

  • 3-5 years in a role related to partnership marketing programs and activities would be advantageous.  Work experience as an account manager in an international creative or media or BTL agency would be a plus.

  • Proven track record in building and maintaining strong client relationships

  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills

  • Solid digital marketing experience

  • Advertising and media agency management skills.

  • Good analytical skills

  • Working across different Geographies

  • Working with cross functional teams

  • Self-directed and motivated   

  • Able to work with little management oversight
