The Data Science Director is a key member of the Visa Analytics and Consulting team. 

As a Director you will be accountable for leading the design, development and implementation of analytics driven strategies and solutions. In this role you will partner with Visa Consulting & Analytics, Business, and Technology teams across the organization to implement solutions to drive business performance.

Data Science team within Visa
Data Science is responsible for blueprinting and delivering projects with the
appropriate analytic methodologies and techniques to solve client’s business
objectives. The team closely collaborates with other analytic stakeholders to
understand the business problem in order to determine the most appropriate
analytic approach that provides meaningful results to clients. Responsibilities
include delivering projects on time and within scope with an in-depth knowledge
of big data and cutting edge data mining techniques as well as the use of
predictive, classification and alternate analytic algorithms for modeling and
segmentation. These analyses are foundational to corroborate or refute stated
hypotheses and are incorporated in the final client-facing solutions. The team
is responsible for continuously creating and protecting analytic IP resulting
from project learning

Data Science team is the engine of analytics at Visa; this is a high-performing team of data scientists,
data analysts, statisticians, and business analysts from a variety of countries
– serving the Asia Pacific, Central Europe, Middle East and Africa geographies.
Visa DS is looking for a hands-on manager, a person that earns trust and
respect of the team. The Manager must be results oriented, highly organized,
and must, must be focused on delivering innovative analytics work.

This role doesn't involve direct team management.

Responsibilities

1. Manage projects from conception to completion with the help of junior team members, oversight of projects performed by junior team members

2. Lead other tasks on R&D, data governance, system infrastructure, analytics tool evaluation

3. Help us staying at the forefront of technical advancement in data science and introducing cutting edge tools and techniques for generating business insights

4. Provide thought leadership in analytic techniques and business applications to unlock the value of Visa’s unique dataset

5. Find opportunities to create and automate repeatable analyses or build streamlined solutions for internal and external Visa clients

6. Continuously develop and present innovative ideas based on data driven approach in order to improve current business practices within Visa

7. Coach and educate other team members on data analysis techniques and Visa processes

8. Constantly improve Visa external image as data driven innovative by participation in and organization of external workshops and meet-ups

9. Vendor onboarding and resource management

10. Drive and lead function development strategy together with Data Science function Head

11. Back-up for Data Science Head in the region


 

Professional

• Minimum of 7 years of analytical expertise in applying statistical solutions to business problems
• Degree (Masters or Ph.D would be an advantage) in Quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Operational Research, Computer Science, Economics, or engineering or equivalent experience
• Understanding of Payments and Banking Industry including Consumer Credit, Consumer debit, Small Business, Commercial, Co-Brand and Merchant
• Experience planning, organizing, and managing multiple large projects with diverse cross-functional teams
• Demonstrated ability to incorporate new techniques to solve business problems
• Demonstrated resource planning and delivery skills

Technical

• Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, clustering, decision tree, Gradient Boosting, Random forests, Support Vector Machine, Deep learning, etc.) and experience with applications.

• Working knowledge of Hadoop ecosystem and associated technologies, e.g. Apache Spark, Mllib, GraphX, iPython, sci-kit and Pandas.

• Understanding of algorithms and ability to optimize various program complexities using suitable data structures.

• Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and able to meet deadlines.

• Experience in leading the full cycle of product implementation, from hypothesis generation to UAT and production implementation is a plus
