Job Description

The Director of User Experience Design Services will join a small, dynamic team of design and product experts with the purpose of helping to grow our client’s business (Fortune 500) through a consultative approach to digital experience design. This individual is a strategic, full-stack user experience designer with hands-on human centered design thinking, UX/UI, research, service design, prototyping, facilitation, and strong client-facing workshop skills. With the guidance of our studio’s Design and Innovation leadership, the Director will deliver polished UX/UI artifacts and human-centric digital design expertise for our clients, as well as be responsible for creating alignment, focus, and accountability among a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders throughout the design engagement process.
 

This designer should have industry leading design chops, consultative design strategy experience, and a fluency to ‘speak’ to product management and technology partners. This designer will need to develop a nuanced understanding of emerging digital payment trends as well as Visa’s capabilities and services in order to effectively leverage the right assets at the right time. This role will also include the responsibility of establishing design sprint and collaboration frameworks, co-creation tools, asset libraries, and incorporating design systems that will ultimately power the work of our practice.

 

Responsibilities: 
 

  • Independently and proactively plan and execute high-quality client design sprints and co-creation engagements (through all phases of design) under the guidance of the Innovation and Design Leadership
  • Maintain the highest standards of experience design delivery from wireframes to prototypes and videos, extending that polish and strategic thinking to creating extensible and scalable co-creation tools and assets for our practice
  • Craft research strategy and conduct hands-on qualitative and quantitative studies to gain customer insights in order to fuel our co-creation process
  • Deeply understand the payment ecosystem, commerce trends, our Innovation practice, as well as Visa products, services, and capabilities in order to effectively design for our clients and partners
  • Work with our cross-functional product and business teams to ensure alignment and project success
  • Strong hands-on designer and talent manager, while being able to inspire and educate cross-functional partners
  • Evangelize Visa’s point of view on Innovation
  • Support NY Studio design operations needs as required including but not limited to RFPs, design briefs, global design initiatives, supplier relationships, etc.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

10 years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 8 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters/MFA/MBA etc) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD - preferably working in consultancies, digital product, or established startups)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 12-15 years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. MFA, MBA)
  • 8+ years working as a product or digital designer as part of an in-house, agency, or cross-functional design or innovation team
  • Master facilitator with c-suite experience and proven track record running client engagements, demonstrating excellence in presentation polish, and strong client orientation
  • Management experience with at least 2 direct reports required
  •  Payment industry experience preferred

Additional Information

Essential Functions:

  • Expert in creating user experience maps, service blueprints, wireframes, polished user interface design, rapid prototyping, and presentations that communicate the strategy
  • Expert in digital design software including Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, InVision, proficiency in HTML/JS/CSS a plus
  • Knowledgeable in human centered design thinking, service design, and user research 
  • Ability to tackle a diverse set of design challenges and recognize patterns to help develop strategic and scalable solutions
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects

Physical Requirements:
This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, reach with hands and arms, and bend or lift up to 25 pounds.

Travel Requirements:
Less than 20% travel required

Work Hours:
Incumbent must make themselves available onsite during core business hours
