What’s it all about?

Visa is searching for an Account Executive to lead the Irish Merchant Engagement and Strategy. This includes top tier merchants in the Irish market, with operations and/or aspirations across multiple territories, as well as the wider SME base. The role requires close collaboration with teams across Visa within Europe. As an integral member of the Merchant Sales & Acquiring team and Irish Country team, this individual brings market and account leadership, strategic thinking, consultative selling and creativity to manage these key relationships, expand acceptance, grow Visa usage, and partnering with merchants to drive solutions.

Reporting to the Head of MS&A for UK & Ireland and working with colleagues across the business, this Account Executive will deliver on high-profile, cross functional strategies and plans, and, working in tandem with internal partners, identify and cultivate merchant growth opportunities, engage with merchants, and develop their business plans, match Visa solutions to their needs – in order to deliver sustainable revenue growth and achieve Visa goals.

What we expect of you, day to day.

  • Lead the Irish market and account strategy for merchant engagement - Build Irish market multiyear plan jointly with Country Manager and conduct internal cross-functional Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs) to coordinate and drive the strategic agenda, track and measure deals and develop a pipeline of initiatives across all merchant segments. Develop disciplined relationship structure between Visa and key merchants/associations. Lead cross-functional Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) with clients to drive the strategic agenda, track and measure deals and develop a pipeline of joint initiatives.
  • Partner with merchants – Build strong merchant client relationships with both existing and high potential merchants. Be Visa’s internal “CEO” for Irish Merchant relationships and be the key business interface for these merchants, to identify and secure new opportunities, establish preference for Visa payments and solutions, develop strategic relationships with business leaders and lead the account planning and execution processes.
  • Drive positive merchant outcomes – establish fluency in all Visa merchant-facing solutions and communicate and articulate all aspects of Visa value propositions for merchants, consultatively identify and prioritize merchant and market needs and craft tailored solutions that drive specific commercial metrics (e.g. business growth, Visa growth) and increase merchant satisfaction with Visa products/services. Learn, build and articulate the Visa value proposition.
  • Optimize key merchant investments – identify or partner with business development on new opportunities for merchants to partner with Visa e.g. innovation, commercial partnerships, co-creation etc. – Leading to outcomes that will jointly benefit merchantsw and Visa (e.g. driving sales of Visa core and digital products, develop appropriate business cases and forecasts, advocate for funding, identify and deploy Visa resources to address objectives, track our performance, and use learnings to inform future investment).
  • Support the expansion of Visa acceptance by matching Visa objectives and solutions to merchants business development plans, including: expansion into new growth sectors, non-card payments, omni-channel solutions and terminalisation
  • Support the key foundational aspects of merchants businesses in partnership with the key SME’s/functional teams across Visa, including: CSS, issuing and acquiring, country team, product, marketing, innovation, technological resilience and business continuity.
  • Establish strong internal partnerships – partner with functions across Visa (e.g., sub-regional leadership, global MSA, CSS, product, etc. to collaboratively deliver on responsibilities for various acquirer outcomes and troubleshoot acquirer relationships within Visa internally, escalating issues as required.
  • Develop a broad understanding of issues and trends affecting the payments landscape, including PEST opportunities and threats.
  • Strive to deliver Visa goals and be a role model for Visa’s leadership principles.

Qualifications

  • Experienced, results-oriented account executive with sound experience and a proven track record in managing important clients, developing relationships and sales partnerships.
  • Proven track record in market or industry development and ability to work in ambiguity and fast paced environment
  • Creative problem solving, working collaboratively across functions, and an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Strong external sales/business development background with product and / or marketing experience and abilities, preferably in financial services or with large merchant clients
  • Competent and comfortable to engage and work effectively with client and Visa stakeholders at all levels.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to establish effective relationships and communicate at all levels of the organization including executive management.
  • Strong commercial acumen and proven ability to negotiate business agreements and to enhance existing and develop new business partnerships.
  • Exceptional ability to manage & grow internal and external resources and cross functional relationships
  • Excellent interpersonal skills collaborating across functions/geographies in a complex matrix environment
  • Possesses high standards of ethics and integrity towards employees, stakeholders and customers.
