Our business in Sub-Saharan Africa includes more than 45 markets of the most exciting economies in Africa, and include our offices in Johannesburg, Nairobi, Lagos, Abidjan, Accra and Kigali. As part of the Product team in SSA, you will assist in designing and implementing the go-to-market strategy for product sales and deployment at Visa. Your role may include aspects of consultative client engagement, product strategy, execution, and analytics to craft solutions to meet customer needs. You will also be working with a team that supports technical conversations and deployment with external partners, including advising on how they can work with Visa to build custom solutions that utilize their strengths to enhance Visa’s solution bundles.
This Product role is responsible for leading a team who manages Visa’s consumer issuing solutions across Sub-Saharan Africa, reporting to the Head of Products for SSA. The person in this role would be accountable for cardholder CVP and benefit platforms, delivery of benefits to cardholders, growth of priority product lines, growth of value-added services revenue and co-creation of bespoke experiences with key clients.
Scope: South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, based in Johannesburg, South Africa
Develop and manage Product CVP and Benefit platforms
Use market insights to develop customer value propositions and ensure that future benefits and offerings reflect the regional (SSA) market and consumer needs across multiple segments
Manage various product benefits, including consumer utilization, associated costs and vendor management
Manage digital platforms utilized to deliver cardholder benefits to consumers, in conjunction with vendors and/or internal Visa teams
Management of Core Consumer Products (Debit, Credit, Prepaid, Multi-Currency)
Manage core product rules, pricing and capabilities as required to be localized for clients in Sub-Saharan Africa
Position Visa core products as the preferred choice for Issuers and the brand of choice by consumers, with specific focus on new capabilities and enhancements.
Value Added Services revenue growth
Identify opportunities to implement Visa Loyalty and Data solutions with clients, merchants and fintech players and drive revenue growth
Successful implementation and integration of solutions, working with cross-functional and hub teams
Client Customization and Digital Enablement
Engage with Visa clients and fintech partners, in conjunction with business development (BD) and other cross-functional teams, to co-create custom solutions and enable Visa digital capabilities with key Visa clients
Client leadership for Consumer products and solutions
Engage Visa clients, at both functional and executive levels, to represent Visa’s consumer product solutions as a thought leader and trusted advisor
Drive Product and strategic initiatives with Visa clients, in collaboration with other cross-functional teams
Provide Product input to new business opportunities and formal proposals (e.g. RFP’s)
Accountable for performance of Consumer products and solutions
Track the performance and delivery of client solutions and subsequent launches, whilst providing regular reporting and updates
Manage expenses and budgets
Manage expenses and forecasts to ensure that budgets are appropriately allocated and spent
Follow correct governance to maintain an exemplary control environment
- Bachelor degree or equivalent, Masters degree advantageous but not a requirement
10+ years (with Bachelors degree) or 8+ years (with Masters degree) of experience, spanning consumer product management (financial services advantageous), and developing and managing customer value propositions
Strong knowledge and proven execution experience in marketing, product management and portfolio management principles in financial services /retail banking / payments arena
Proven track record of successful planning and execution in a fast-paced environment
Proven ability to lead a team and operate successfully within a matrix/team environment
Digitally curious, with exposure to digital products and digital product management advantageous
Strong analytical skills, problem solver
Good verbal and written communication skills, thought leader
Solid interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively within a matrix organization, as well as vendors and clients
Self-directed and motivated, with an entrepreneurial spirit
Proficient user of all Microsoft Office products
Knowledge of Visa products, payments or international business are advantages, but not minimum requirement
