Job Description

 

Payments and payment technologies have become a very popular area in the last several years. Given the strong demands and innovation, this will be a very exciting area in the next 5 to 10 years. VISA is clearly a very strong leader in the payment industry, and is in a fast pace of technology transformation.  Fueling this growth and leadership is the data that we collect.  The focus of this Technical Product Manager (TPM) role is to help drive the evolution of the Visa Data Platform.  This includes full project life-cycle (idea gather through post implementation review) as well as strategic product level planning.

Specifically, the Data Platform TPM will cover the following areas

·       Gathering, analyzing, coordinating end user requirements

·       Documenting the requirements and the conceptual approaches to solving the various requests. 

·       Drive strategic innovation within the Data Platform by document longer-term product strategies and roadmaps.

·       Provide full TPM support for ongoing projects

o   Requirements elaboration

o   Conceptual approach creation

o   Epic and story creation

o   Backlog grooming and prioritization

·       Subject matter expertise in a variety of Data Platform subjects (evolving over time.)

·       Help evolve the ongoing project/product ingestion and tracking processes

·       Communicate status up to management, laterally to internal customers, and out to external customers.

 

The ideal candidate will have a very strong technical background in one or more of the following areas:

1.       Data warehousing concepts (reporting, data quality, metadata, etc)

2.       Relational database concepts:  Modeling, tables, indexes, keys, etc

3.       Big Data stack concepts:  Hadoop, HBase, No SQL, Spark, Kafka databases

4.       Excellent data analysis skills

5.       Good knowledge using SQL across a variety of platforms

6.       Experience with TPM functions (e.g., Epic/Story creation, backlog grooming, etc.)

7.       Technical vendor interaction, management and support.

8.       Expert level with MS Office:  MS Access, Excel (required), PowerPoint, Word

Candidates should be passionate, self-driven and resourceful, creative problem solvers with can-do attitude.  Additionally, the candidate must be self-motivated as there will be minimal oversight on a day-to-day basis.  As such, the ability to self-track to deliverables is necessary.  The position will be based in Visa’s Palo Alto office.

Responsibilities:

  • Long term strategic product roadmaps across a variety of Data Platform functions
  • Specific project implementation focus throughout the full lifecycle.
  • TPM responsibilities across a suite of Data Platform applications
    • Epic/Story Creation
    • Timeline evaluation
    • Backlog Grooming
  • Take ownership of, and become a subject matter expert in a variety of “lanes” within the Data Platform

 

Qualifications

 

  • BA/BS degree is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
    • Technically oriented degree (e.g., CS or Engineering) is important, however, data oriented degrees are also valuable (e.g., Statistics, economics, Applied Mathematics.)
  • Team player, leave ego at the door
  • Experience demonstrating strong self-motivation and accountability 
  • Strong technical experience in the above listed technical areas
  • Minimum of 5 years TPM experience, preferably in a data driven environment
  • Proactive, can do attitude, self-driven, creative problem solver
  • Passion for the product looking for continuous process and quality improvement
  • Strong analytical background
  • Exceptional collaboration and partnership skills with the ability to work in a global  environment and drive consensus in cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to interface well with clients and partners at all  levels 
  • Outstanding communications ability to a diverse customer audience, including both technical, business and Legal representatives
  • Strong customer engagement and relationship management skills 
  • Fast learner on both technical side and business side 
  • More than comfortable in an ambiguous matrixed organization 
  • Detail oriented with a drive to accomplish the task at hand
