Job Description

Open VisaNet (OVN), is the Next Generation VisaNet, which will push the envelope of building highly scalable, secure, cost-effective and distributed applications on commodity hardware using best-in-class technology components. Open VisaNet is one of Visa's Key initiative that will help Visa support in-country and global processing solutions and provide Visa an opportunity to move away from proprietary hardware systems. Building Open VisaNet will involve collaboration with an exceptional group of software engineers, security specialists, DevOps engineers, payment experts, infrastructure architects and business analysts. To support our development excellent architectural thinking, documentation and guidance is critical to the development lifecycle.  Reporting to the Vice President (Architecture), this position will be responsible for developing and when required, co-creating architectural approaches, high level designs, reviewing low level designs and acting as a product owner for architectural framework components.   

Essential Functions

  • Work collaboratively with development leads, business analysts, OVN architects and VisaNet subject matter experts to

    • Define and document detailed architectural approach for both framework and functional components ensuring that the approach addresses both functional and non-functional (security, availability, latency, resiliency) areas

    • Define and document high level designs for assigned framework and functional components

  • Review and sign off Detailed design documents ensuring adherence to the high-level design and architectural approach

  • Mentors and reviews artifacts produced by Lead Architects to ensure quality of the artifacts.

  • Act as an OVN evangelist and demonstrate thought leadership through presentations for the senior leadership of the Network processing organization and other areas within Technology (Operations & Infrastructure, Security, Data)

  • Share expertise through brown bag presentations and tech live presentations (tech talks) to a wide audience

  • Act as a product owner for architectural framework components

  • Ensure artifacts are created based on agreed templates and stored appropriately.

  • Consult on a regular basis with leadership to align expectations and deliverables

  • Acquire a good understanding of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) concepts and play an active role in SAFe activities as required for the Product Owner role.

  • Participate in Team Demos and Retrospectives to ensure build adherence to architecture and high-level design

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science with 12+ years of software development experience OR Masters Degree in Engineering or Computer Science with 10+ years of software development experience
  • Proven knowledge of successful design, architecture and development of highly scalable, highly available systems with a specific emphasis on distributed Systems architecture
  • Requires demonstrable knowledge of goLang, Kubernetes, Kafka, distributed NoSQL databases
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipeline tools such as Jenkins, Ansible, Bitbucket/Git etc.
  • Team player with a broad experience collaborating with Subject Matter Experts, business analysts and development leads.

  • Ability to mentor junior architects and other members of the development team.

  • Demonstrable experience in presenting architectural concepts to a wide audience of senior leadership

  • Multi-tasking ability essential to handle multiple priorities with minimal direction from management.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills required.
  • Ability to work across time zones as required and with multicultural teams across the globe.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science with 15+ years of software development experience OR Masters Degree in Engineering or Computer Science with 12+ years of software development experience
  • Knowledgeable with Visa systems or applications. 

  • Knowledge of the payment business and all products and services provided by VisaNet.

Additional Information

  • Incumbent must make themselves available during core business hours.

  • This position requires the incumbent to travel for work 2-5% of the time.

  • This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, and reach with hands and arms.
