Job Description

The Director, Business PLanning and Strategy will be a member of the NA Merchant Strategy and Business Planning team, which is responsible for regional and vertical-level strategy development and coordination, support and execution of key strategic initiatives, market research and strategic intelligence, as well as operational management and business planning for the overall NA Merchant organization.  

Reporting to the Head of Strategy and Operations, this person will work closely with key stakeholders both internal and external to the group and manage key Merchant Strategic initiative responsibilities in addition to general planning, strategy and operational needs of the NA Merchant Leadership Team, including the following:

Essential Duties

  • Serve as lead NA Merchant liaison with North America and Global Strategy organizations, leveraging and/or representing core NA support organizations
    • Collaborate with global and regional merchant strategy and solutions teams to share best practices and leverage product / analytic resources to drive efficiency and scalable results
    • Lead NA Merchant strategic initiative project teams and represent the voice of NA on global task forces
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Marketing, Analytics, Global Technology, Pricing, Corporate Strategy, Product and Finance.
  • Support NA Merchant’s vertical strategies, business development, and key initiatives; help manage the day-to-day project and team activities to meet project goals and timelines
    • Understand client needs and merchant trends, anticipate opportunities and challenges, collect and synthesize AE feedback and recommend proactive measures to support accomplishing group and vertical level targets.
    • Develop rigorous, fact based, quantitative analysis to support recommendations. Ensure strategic and financial soundness and alignment for any recommendations
  • Provide consulting /support for NA Merchant team on system integrity topics (pricing, rules, operating regulations) and deal strategy
    • Act as “in-house” expert on pricing, rules and Visa Operating Regulations
    • Support optimizing go-to-market approach for deal standardization and optimization
  • Build strong relationships with Senior Visa executives and NA Merchant AE leaders, and be able to influence decisions at the senior level.  
  • Lead content development for presentations / conferences / executive reviews; Communicate recommendations in a clear, concise and impactful way to senior level audience

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 10 years of work experience with Bachelor degree or 8 years of work experience with advanced degree (e.g. MBA/JD/MD)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 12+ years of business experience, with a strong track record of client service, strategic development and / or execution.
  • Experience at a top-tier management consultancy and/or a solid track-record of operating in an in-house corporate/group strategy role
  • Knowledge of payment industry products, services and technologies, eCommerce, and mobile payments technology is strongly preferred.
  • Experience organizing and managing complex cross-enterprise projects and processes with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to translate analytics, research, client/consumer needs into actionable plans and deliverables.
  • A willingness to challenge preconceived attitudes and behaviors and shape future thinking.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; experience working with database / MIS

Additional Information

Travel Requirements This position requires the incumbent to travel for work up to 30% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, and reach with hands and arms.
