Job Description

Essential Functions:

The primary responsibility of this leadership position is to provide lean six sigma expertise and process improvement to VISA’s finance operations – improving transactional processes and creating capacity to support this growing business.  The ability to work effectively with cross-functional leaders and teams is key to create value with IT, suppliers and customers by level-loading work, improving flow, reducing costs and continuously improving quality across the value stream.  As the processes to be improved are in financial operations, we are looking for a leader with significant experience in driving improvements to such processes.

An effective leader in this role will be able to:

  • Design, project manage and lead a variety of training, events, workshops and sessions to improve VISA’s finance operations using the DMAIC framework – including 5S, 5-Whys, SIPOC documentation, Kaisen events and Value Stream Mapping, as appropriate for the work to be improved;
  • Craft a comprehensive communication and execution plan to continue to build Lean skills within the organization – develop an actionable model for targeted levels of Lean education within VISA finance operations;
  • Engage stakeholders across the value stream to improve VISA’s finance processes;
  • Encourage, coach, guide and develop the team as they make meaningful progress;
  • Guide the management system, including refining key metrics, balanced scorecards and process reviews;
  • Candidly assess, communicate and address opportunities;
  • Drive continuous improvement, eliminate process waste and create operational capacity.

This position is a key leadership role for the Controller organization, and the ability for this leader to continuously improve VISA’s finance processes helps the company grow and expand into new markets.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 10 years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field – eg. math, engineering, finance, science or at least 8 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters/MBA/JD/MD) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD
  • 10+ years of successful leadership program managing and improving processes in a business environment
  • 7+ years of experience driving continuous improvement using Lean methodologies
  • Experience leading and driving Lean events using the DMAIC framework – including 5S, 5-Whys, SIPOC documentation, Kaisen events and Value Stream Mapping
  • Demonstrated experience in improving finance management systems – including key performance indicators
  • Lean certification – eg. Green/Black Belt

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (eg. MBA, Math, Engineering, Science, Finance)
  • Advanced skills in statistical analyses
  • Proven track record of successfully managing finance operations and change to this function
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills and an ability to synthesize information and make clear, concise recommendations on course of action
  • In-depth understanding of finance processes, including the order to cash process flow, and associated internal control best practices
  • Ability to work under challenging timelines and with stakeholders, who may have competing interests
  • Experience developing and maintaining policies and procedures
  • Ability and willingness to travel
  • Proven track record of managing and driving teams to achieve and exceed established goals and objectives
  • Strong relationship management skills and ability to influence at a senior management level both internally and externally
  • High level of self-motivation and initiative, and ability to operate effectively as a team player
  • Demonstrated thought leadership and the aptitude to think creatively and to identify new ways to approach existing problems
  • Ability to identify and pursue multiple initiatives simultaneously and deliver superior results

Additional Information

Work Hours:

  • Flexible work schedule, able to work and take calls days, evenings, weekends and holidays, as necessary

Travel Requirements:

  • This position requires the incumbent to travel for work 10% of the time; capability to travel internationally

Mental/Physical Requirements:

  • This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, reach with hands and arms, and bend or lift up to 25 pounds
