Job Description

The Head of Risk Consulting is a key leadership position fundamental to the strategic objectives of both the CEMEA Visa Consulting and Visa Risk teams. The core focus of this role will be leading the development and provision of risk management advisory services across the credit, fraud and subsequently, acquiring risk domains.

Key Expectations:

  • Building out a Risk Consulting Service Line for CEMEA, primarily focused on the areas of fraud and authorization risk, credit risk, as well as acquiring risk. As a business leader, they will be personally responsible for delivering project revenue in 2018, with significant growth planned in subsequent years. Consulting engagements include, but are not limited to, end-to-end risk management reviews, relevant deployment of risk-related solutions (leveraging network and client data) for both issuers and acquirers.
  • Act as the regional Risk Consulting SME. This role includes providing deep domain expertise, acting as the Quality Partner to provide advice and support to other regional leads serving clients across CEMEA. The incumbent will have significant hands-on experience of implementing risk best practices for both issuers and acquirers, leveraging client and network data, across all relevant payment products and channels.
  • Consulting Practice leadership including building deeper domain expertise across the regional and global consulting teams, standardizing and scaling risk consulting engagements, and representing Visa’s capabilities in client sales discussions.
  • Talent development and coaching, including a demonstrable track record of leadership in an equivalent role, supported by evidence of leadership skills and the development of high potential individuals and teams over several years. Visa Consulting has an outstanding record in encouraging diversity and accelerating career growth within Visa, and this will be a critical factor in the future success of the Risk Consulting team.
  • Programme management, ability to lead discrete pieces of work, creating virtual teams, planning, and driving forward activity, managing stakeholders and taking full accountability for engagement results.
  • Act as a leader and SME in both the CEMEA Visa Consulting and Visa Risk regional leadership teams, providing thought leadership and engendering the Risk Consulting strategic agenda

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, lead, coach and inspire a team of high performing risk consultants.
  • Developing trusted advisor relationships with client senior executives through impactful risk consulting engagements.
  • Grow the revenue from risk consulting services offered to issuing and acquiring clients to support both the global and CEMEA Visa Consulting growth strategy.
  • Lead the development of the Risk Consulting service line across CEMEA, including the identification, development and sponsorship of joint Visa Consulting and Visa Risk data-driven Solutions and acting as Quality Partner to review and provide support for major projects across the CEMEA region.
  • Managing simultaneous risk consulting engagement teams (across credit, fraud, authorizations and acquiring risk) including initial client sales, problem disaggregation and planning, and quality assurance of final deliverable.
  • Proactively engage with clients and Visa client leadership in regular strategic & planning discussions; cultivate and manage a pipeline of risk work with clients.
  • Develop frameworks, approaches, solutions and recommendations through the analysis of issuer and acquirer data that effectively and efficiently address the most impactful risk-related opportunities and challenges.
  • Collaborate with peers in other functional areas (e.g. analytics, product, client support services and innovation) and across global/regional teams to execute projects in ways that leverage the breadth and depth of Visa’s resource.
  • Produce insights and analyses to improve client performance, drive understanding of client issues and provide strategic guidance for client priorities across the payment P&L
  • As a risk management expert, provide knowledge sharing, coaching and training across teams and/or regions.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Deep expertise of risk management in the domains of fraud risk, credit risk, operational risk, financial crime compliance and regulatory compliance (KYC, AML).
  • Proven experience at building a risk consulting practice in a large, matrixed organization
  • Understanding of critical factors in driving profitability and growth for Visa's issuer, acquirer and merchant clients.
  • Substantial problem solving ability with strategic focus on impacting client ROI via enhanced risk management practices.
  • Strong analytical skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor.
  • Self-motivated, results oriented individual with the ability to handle numerous projects
  • Executive Presence including excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, and ability to communicate at all levels within large organizations.
  • Demonstrated leadership, managerial and collaboration capabilities.
  • Holds self and others accountable for measurable high quality, timely and effective results. Displays a strong commitment to organizational success.
  • Ability to identify key strategic issues and to generate and deliver creative and innovative solutions to problems and opportunities.

  • Specific Requirements
  • Minimum of 15+ years of progressively more responsible risk management experience in management consulting and/or payment businesses.
  • Should include key leadership roles with direct P&L responsibility for consulting projects, preferably with a combination of regional and global experience strongly desired.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of risk management systems, including decision engines, fraud mitigation tools and scoring methodologies.
  • Subject matter expertise in relevant payment and risk frameworks/legislation/best practices, including PCI, GARS and Basel guidelines
  • Previous experience of large scale transactional services ideally processing payments.
  • Well versed in SAS, SQL, Tableau, MS Excel & PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication, story-telling and presentation skills.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with inter-disciplinary groups.
  • Demonstrable leadership skills and evidence of coaching and talent development for high performing teams.
  • Able to travel frequently and work on client site for extended periods across CEMEA.
  • Fluency in English mandatory. Additional languages desired but not a prerequisite.
