Job Description

Visa is seeking an experienced payments professional to join the Visa Government Disbursements Sales team. This sales position is responsible for expanding and deepening Visa’s issuance and Visa Direct disbursements strategy with:

  • State Government agencies and various officials (i.e. Governors, Treasurers, Controllers, Agency Heads, etc.) with potential engagements at the federal level 
  • Visa partners (Issuers, Program Managers, Processors, and FinTechs)
  • Non-Visa partners for securing Visa preference
  • Driving new use cases (Home Health Care, Tax Refunds, Emergency Payments, etc.) / expanding existing use cases (Government Payroll, Pension Benefits, etc.)

This position includes working closely with Visa’s:

  • Government Engagement  team to develop our state government outreach strategy and agency targets, for educating government decision makers and influencers on the benefits and value of electronic payments
  • Issuing Partners and Program Managers to attack and grow Visa’s purchase volume and Visa Direct transactions across all state government agencies
  • Prepaid and Visa Direct Product / Marketing teams to:
    • Position Visa as the leader in the payments industry and as a resource to  State government agencies
    • Drive new product use cases (segment and product including Visa Direct)
    • Additional accountabilities will include ongoing support of our Visa partners via agency introductions, RFP development / response, overseeing program performance and expanding Visa’s share of electronic payments.

The Sr. Account Executive position ideally be based in the Washington DC area but consideration can be had for other Visa offices in the US.   

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute sales strategies / account plans to increase sales volume and market share, expand prepaid product category visibility and exceed defined product and corporate objectives.
  • Provide guidance on procurement and legislative related issues to the agencies and financial institutions as well as to other functional areas of Visa (Government Engagement , Product, International, Federal and State Commercial card sales)
  • Consult on global government opportunities as necessary.
  • Implement strategies that position the business to shape and capitalize on emerging customer and market needs.
  • Proactively identify and solve complex problems that impact Government sales management and direction of the business.
  • Expand existing relationships / partnerships through the selling of Visa products and services.
  • Utilize a consultative sales approach that ensures our client's business objectives are met and performance metrics of payment portfolios are maximized.
  • Continuously review client landscape and recommend, develop, and implement new creative approaches to growing the Visa business.
  • Direct sales management for all Financial Institutions and key government officials with brand decision authority or influence.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 12 years of work experience with a Bachelors Degree; 10 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA/JD/MD); or a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a PhD
  • Solid payments experience with emphasis and focus on card payments.
  • Relationship and experience with State and or Federal Agencies.
  • Exceptional  leadership, communication and negotiation skills
  • Card Issuing / Acquiring experience beneficial.  Exposure to servicing Financial Institution clients in these areas is required.
  • Strong analytical and strategic planning skills.
  • Proven ability to implement strategic initiatives with efficiency, professionalism and with demonstrated trouble shooting / problem solving skills.
  • Confidence and ability to effectively create and deliver presentations to all government agencies.
  • Ability to negotiate business agreements and enhance existing and new relationships.
  • Demonstrate understanding of financial indicators to measure business performance and an ability to summarize business and financial data in a useful manner for planning and decision making.
  • Strong analytical skills for large volumes of aggregated data.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with high level of success / achievement.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Consulting experience a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 15-18 years of experience with a Bachelors Degree or 12 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD or PhD)

Work Authorization:

Work Hours

  • Incumbent must make themselves available during core business hours.

Travel:

  • Incumbent must be able to travel up to 25 to 50%%

Physical Requirements

  • This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, reach with hands and arms.
