Job Description

The Staff Engineer, Cloud Observability will drive the technical execution of key strategic and tactical programs, advancing observability for Visa's  next-generation application and services. This is a highly-visible role within Platfrom as a Service (PaaS) – organization that is chartered to architect, plan, engineer, and operate Visa's Cloud observability platform powering over 100K + sever assets serving thousands of application and services.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior technical leader to contribute to the delivery of Visa's vision for the transformation of the company's observability capabilities using Hybrid virtualization, and cloud technologies.

Essential Functions:

  • Design, implement and evolve highly scalable and fault-tolerant distributed components using hands on JAVA, Spring, GoLang, Python as well as other modern functional programming languages to support enterprise Observability solutions
  • Build observability platform solutions using Kubernetes, Envoy, ISTIO service mesh and other container related technologies
  • Expert level Experience in Google Cloud and AWS
  • Expertise and experience in delivering large-scale systems using big data technologies including but not limited to: Enterprise scale data pipelines using Kafka, Prometheus, and other Time Series databases
  • Participate in design reviews to provide input on functional requirements, product designs, schedules, or potential problems
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 4 years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD degree
  • Experience in design and development of large scale frameworks and products and services using JAVA, Spring and GOLang
  • Experience in developing container applications 
  • Hands on Developers only may apply. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6-8 years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters or higher) 
  • Experience with Kubernetes, AWS, Google Cloud
  • Experience with operating system internals, file systems, disk/storage and networking protocols
  • For you to qualify you must be a Hands on Developer and with Focus on automation
  • Must be a proven team player 
  • Extraordinary software engineering talent

Additional Information

Work Hours 

  • This position requires the incumbent to be available during core business hours.

Travel Requirements 

  • This position requires the incumbent to travel for work less than 10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements 

  • This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, reach with hands and arms, and bend or lift up to 25 pounds.
