Payment technology has become a very popular area in the last several years. Given the strong demands and innovation, this will be a very exciting area in the next 5 to 10 years. VISA is clearly a very strong leader in the payment industry and is in a fast-paced technology transformation. For a payment system to work well, advanced technologies such as data platform, big data, data mining, machine learning, cloud, etc. are critical. In VISA, we have all of these. The Data Platform (DP) Department is in the center for many of these technologies and development.

The Data Platform Department is a key component of Visa's Technology organization that provides an enriched and valuable ecosystem of data platform and data services to drive innovation for our partners and clients, within Visa and globally. Data is the most valuable asset in Visa. The Data Platform Department is dedicated to systems and services to make data secure, high quality, rich, fast, and easy to use, therefore enabling Visa with the ability to leverage its data asset in an effective and timely manner to maximize technology/business development and differentiate Visa from others in the payment industry. The department maintains tens of petabytes of data supporting over 100 services for various internal lines of business and external clients. 

The Platform as a Service team is part of Visa's Data Platform division. Our mission is to provide the enabling technology and processes to manage Visa data assets and deliver Value Added Information Products and Services to our customers. Building next generation applications require collaboration with exceptional group of highly skilled data architects, software engineers, DevOps engineers, payment experts and infrastructure architects. The ideal candidate has strong technical background in cloud technologies, big data, and have a good written and verbal communication skills.  The ideal candidate has production experience building all parts of a modern web-based application, is passionate about performance, testability, and maintainability, cares about quality of code, love to learn new technologies, and is passionate about speed of execution.

As a Chief Systems Architect,

• Provide Architectural leadership and vision for Visa’s Data Platform. Develop and maintain architectural roadmap for products and services plus ensuring alignment with the business and enterprise architecture strategies and standards. Able to develop, present and explain the value and vision of proposed architectures and solutions to a wide range of audience.
• Contribute to the DP strategies and roadmap development to meet business objectives with existing or emerging technologies. Ability to translate business concepts to technical terms. Understands and communicates company goals and objectives.
• Apply creative thinking/approach to determine technical solutions that further business goals and align with corporate technology strategies, keeping in mind performance, reliability, scalability, usability, security, flexibility, and cost.
• Define and drive technology standard and best practices in the Data Platform areas, and lead some key projects.
• Oversee and sign off key architecture artifacts in the group.
• Articulate technology solutions as well as explain the competitive advantages of various technology alternatives.
• Collaborate with the key stakeholders, other product development groups and software vendors to identify and define solutions for complex business and technical requirements.
• Engage with Data Platform customers/partners to understand their needs and provide suggestions/guidance on what data platform techniques are appropriate to solve their problems with pros/cons articulated clearly.
• Drive internal proof of concept initiatives. When needed, quickly design and implement a prototype of a system or component with a proper architecture, and then hand over to (may lead) a small group of devs to finish.
• Provide mentorship and help team growth especially on technical side.

Key Responsibilities

· Drives the architecture for key cross team / cross product development projects (via architecture/design documents and developing code key modules).

· Establishes software development patterns and best practices via examples and shipping code.

· Ensures that all relevant project teams follow a common set of principles and patterns and utilize a standard set of technology frameworks and libraries.

· Provides leadership across the architecture community to ensure solutions are built in alignment with platform principles and standards.

· Mentors and builds world-class high-performing engineering and data science teams.

· Applies architecture best practices that helps increase execution velocity.

· Develops architectures that are inherently secure, robust, scalable, modular, API-centric and global.

· Influences technology selection for the enterprise.

· Defines deployment topology by working with peers across the technology organization.

· Optimizes use of Visa’s Platforms & Solutions.

· Demonstrates thought leadership through presentations and teaching across Visa.

· Contributes to key Visa and Data platform technology initiatives.

· BS/MS in Computer Science/Computer Engineering, Science, Math
· A minimum of 15 years of experience in architecture and development, 5 years with experience in building cloud services, distributed platforms and solutions
· Proven knowledge of successful design, architecture and development using Hadoop with large data volumes
· Possesses a deep understanding of benefits/drawbacks of different integration patterns
· Continuous delivery and Dev Ops experience - infrastructure automation, monitoring, logging, auditing and security implementation and practices
· A minimum of 4 years experience with big data related technologies is required
· Knowledge of NoSQL stores (e.g. HBASE and Cassandra) technologies is a plus
