Job Description

The Government Engagement Intern will play a critical role in Visa’s Washington, DC office coordinating and supporting the efforts of the Government Engagement team.

The selected candidate will play an integral role in the function of the office, and will take on many critical tasks such as supporting the development of briefing materials for senior executives’ government engagement activities, helping to support major education and advocacy events with third-party vendors and key stakeholders, and attending and reporting on important events in and around Washington.

Other projects will include helping to coordinate Government Engagement efforts on a range of educational events, supporting Visa’s GE team with relationship management, and developing briefing materials with a cross-functional group of Visa team members to support GE initiatives.

The position will also work closely with the US State and Local Government Engagement team to help drive their advocacy efforts throughout state capitals across the country, supporting their needs on a range of state-focused projects and initiatives. 

In addition, this position will help manage and implement our strategic engagement with trade associations to ensure Visa leverages its relationships and work with these organizations.

Essential Functions

• Provide coverage of hearings on Capitol Hill and other policy-related developments in Washington

• Conduct proprietary research to support Visa’s legislative and advocacy agenda

•  Coordinate events, logistics, and meetings to showcase Visa’s technology leadership in Washington

• Help coordinate preparation of briefing materials for senior Visa executives to drive strategic engagement with policymakers

• Assist in the production of newsletter highlighting activities and key issues in government affairs to communicate internally to Visa executives

• Support content generation and production of a monthly publication for client managers to share with financial institution partners providing an update on key policy developments at the state and federal level

• Assist in managing relationships and projects with third-party stakeholder groups, including trade associations

• Provide general support to Government Engagement and Communications teams

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Students pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree with a graduation date between December 2021 and August 2023
  • 3.0 minimum GPA (out of 4.0 scale, or the equivalent)
  • Strong communications skills, specifically, the absence of repeated grammatical or typographical errors, clear and concise written and spoken communications, and communications that demonstrate professional judgment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams) and SharePoint and demonstrated strength in developing complex PowerPoint presentations

  • Goal-driven, able to function independently, and demonstrate ability to meet critical deadlines

  • Strong analytical and research skills

  • Understanding of the legislative and regulatory processes

Work Hours:

Incumbent must make themselves available during core business hours.

Physical Requirements

This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, and reach with hands and arms.

Travel: Incumbent must be able to travel less than 10%
