Responsibilities:

The Portfolio Manager is responsible for ensuring that Visa Research programs and projects are planned, managed, and governed in a consistent, transparent, and disciplined manner. The position requires an experienced program management professional with the right mix of relevant experience and skills, an ability to flex between the strategic and the tactical, outstanding verbal and written communication skills, and a high level of energy and flexibility to get things done and thrive in a fast-paced, research focused, team oriented product development environment.

  • Oversees the processes that govern the management of the portfolio by working with Business and product development stakeholders to ensure the smooth planning and execution of all projects 
  • Create accurate and inclusive estimates, develop budgets and project plans, participate in User acceptance testing, and produce high quality project charters and other planning documentation needed for funding approvals
  • Achieve project goals by collaborating with stakeholders at all management levels across Visa, including architects and strategists, technical IT subject matter experts, business partners, vendors, and Visa senior management
  • Drive requirements elaboration with business and technology partners
  • Direct project activities, conduct reviews, manage risk mitigation, issues, change control processes, and communicate status to senior executives within the development and business partner organizations
  • Manage and track project budgets, forecasts and schedule to achieve target scope, schedule and cost
  • Facilitate collective communications across the global team related to all planning, delivery and continually works to improve processes related to Visa Research portfolio 
  • Ensure that all projects are in compliance with Visa's internal Project Management Methodology and Key Controls
  • Direct project team composed of: local and remote teams/resources and external vendors
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changes in roles and responsibilities 
  • Demonstrate skills in conflict management and negotiation to achieve project goals and develop trust with stakeholders
  • Manage through influence, but without direct management authority
  • Use capabilities to influence customers and stakeholders, and properly manage divergent expectations
  • Embrace teamwork while promoting a culture of openness and flexibility

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline
  • 1 year of portfolio management experience leading technology teams in the delivery of software development, Proofs of Concepts (POCs), operational and integration efforts
  • Good understanding of Agile /Scrum and Waterfall approach and comfortable with the role of either Scrum Master, Technical or Functional Project Manager
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical and business issues and solutions to multiple organizational levels
  • Working knowledge of the software development lifecycle from requirements gathering to post-implementation production support, including quality assurance and system integration
  • Strong process orientation and a solid understanding of project management techniques, methodologies and best practices
  • Self-motivated; able to work independently while coordinating activities with cross-divisional teams in remote locations
  • Team player; able to communicate with technical and business experts at all levels of the organization
  • Solid analytical skills; able to think strategically
  • PMP certification is a plus

Additional Information

Travel Requirements This position requires the incumbent to travel for work 5% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, and reach with hands and arms. 

Work Hours Incumbent must make themselves available during core business hours.
