Job Description

IT Disaster Recovery (ITDR) is responsible for the alignment of recovery requirements to recovery capabilities, and the identification and mitigation of IT service recovery risk. ITDR has four (4) core processes: 1) Service Impact Assessments, 2) Technical Architecture – Recovery Design, 3) Recovery Exercises, and 4) Findings & Exceptions. These processes integrate into the ITDR Central System for enablement and compliance reporting.

We are seeking a Director of IT Disaster Recovery (ITDR) within the Product Reliability Engineering organization. The Director will be an experienced leader to build on the industry leading success of the ITDR Program. The Director of IT Disaster Recovery will lead the governance of the ITDR program. The person will work closely with Technology and Business stakeholders to build upon Visa’s recovery capabilities to ensure Visa enterprise exceeds the pre-defined and agreed upon recovery objectives.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop, oversee, and manage the on-going ITDR strategy and execution to continually surpass industry best practices

  • Strong technical disaster recovery knowledge, advocacy and communication skills required as you will be interacting regularly with Regulatory bodies (e.g. FFIEC, Reserve Bank of India, Bank of England), Financial Institutions (e.g. PNC Bank, Charles Schwab, Chase Bank), and Internal Audit

  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders across all areas of Visa businesses to develop, facilitate, and perform the ITDR program

  • Define ITDR program scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders

  • Ensure all Visa services are assessed annually at the Service Recovery Unit (SRU) level to determine overall impact over time to formalize the SRUs Tiers, RTO, and RPO

  • Facilitate the alignment of Tiers, RTO, and RPO to ITDR technology requirements and standards for recovery type (Active-Active, Active-Passive) and failover type (Manual, Single Button, Automated)

  • Ensure all Visa Tiers RT, 0, 1, 2, and 3 services perform an annual Live production failover exercise to ensure recovery requirements meet recovery objectives

  • Manage services that are non-compliance via Findings and Exceptions process to timely resolve deficiencies and improve Visa’s resilience program

  • Develop KPIs and dashboards to report metrics, goals, and milestones relevant to ITDR program.

  • Deliver an appropriate Awareness Program to be used enterprise-wide for the purposes of educating VISA associates on the importance of a comprehensive DR program.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience with enterprise level recovery solutions supporting critical applications
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g. FFIEC/FBA, Reserve Bank of India, Bank of England, State/Local)

  • Knowledge of backup/restoration and replication solutions (e.g. SAN replication, database replication, snapshot mirroring, synchronous/asynchronous replication, online backup)

  • Strong knowledge of the inter-relationships between IT Disaster Recovery, Crisis Management, Business Continuity, and Vendor Resilience

  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with demonstrated ability to lead global, multi-functional teams

  • Ability to facilitate consensus across diverse, global technology and business partners will be key

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technology leadership experience with increasing responsibility growing and leading high performance teams and directing the IT function
  • Multi-tasking ability essential to handle multiple priorities with minimal direction from management and adjust to changing priorities and requirements in a rapidly growing organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, specifically the ability to explain the technology strategy to diverse audiences, in readily understood non-technical language

Work Hours: 

  • Incumbent must make themselves available during core business hours
  • Team is geographically dispersed

Travel Requirements:

  • This position requires the incumbent to travel for work 5% of the time.

Physical Requirements:

  • This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, reach with hands and arms, and bend or lift up to 25 pounds.
