Job Description

The Senior Director, US Federal and State Tax Compliance will lead and manage Visa’s US federal and state tax compliance processes (excluding US international compliance) to produce accurate and timely filed tax returns, in close collaboration with the directors of the federal and state tax compliance.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure compliance with all domestic (federal, state & local) direct and indirect tax laws and that all tax reporting requirements are met in a timely and accurate manner
  • Evaluate the tax reporting options available to the company (such as tax accounting methods, elections and other claimed positions) to minimize the company’s taxes
  • Ensure that all claimed positions have the requisite level of authority and communicates risks associated with uncertain positions
  • Monitor and analyze proposed and newly enacted tax legislation, regulations, rulings, court cases, etc. ensuring that adequate procedures are in place
  • Be responsible for book-to-tax adjustment, resulting provision-to-return true ups, deferred accounts roll forward
  • Work effectively with the tax provision team to create efficiencies in the tax calendar
  • Monitor tax planning, post-merger & acquisition activity to ensure such transitions and other tax technical matters are appropriately addressed in the tax returns
  • Partner with broader tax team, FP&A, to deliver analytical solutions and to determine impact of strategic business decisions and transactions
  • Lead the execution of excellent audit files to document, define, demonstrate, inform, and archive US Federal and applicable state tax return work papers
  • Work with the tax team in developing effective processes and deploying technology solutions to support continued growth and scalability of the tax compliance function, strives to improve and automate tax compliance processes
  • Select and implement information systems that improve the quality, accuracy and efficiency of tax reporting
  • Manage the preparation and maintenance of tax basis balance sheets and subsidiary stock basis computations for organizational legal entities
  • Work with internal and external financial statement auditors
  • Perform technical review and research of complex tax return issues
  • Manage corporate tax research, tax planning and special projects
  • Know and own the state tax issues working closely with the tax director of state compliance
  • Be an integral part of building and executing a road map for the future of the tax compliance function
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams on business initiatives

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 12 years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree; 10 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA/JD/MD); or a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a PhD
  • Big 4 public accounting and/or publicly held MNC of progressive experience in federal/state income tax compliance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance; CPA and/or Masters in Taxation is/are a plus
  • 15+ years in Big 4 public accounting and/or publicly held MNC of progressive experience in federal/state income tax compliance
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple responsibilities, with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to collaborate as part of a team
  • Significant experience in managing teams and developing talent
  • Experience organizing a large volume of information and identifying and deploying automation tools/solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Experience with OneSource is a plus
  • Broad exposure international tax issues including transfer pricing
  • Demonstrated experience supervising multiple independent teams

Mental/Physical Requirements:

  • This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, reach with hands and arms, and bend or lift up to 25 pounds
