Job Description

What’s it all about?

This is the leader of the Visa Payments Ltd (VPL) Corporate Accounting team, which is responsible for the accounting of all VPL business functions, corporate accounting activities and regional statutory reporting.  The team is part of the broader VPL and Global Product organization with an indirect report to Visa’s Global Finance function.

The role will report to the Head of Finance, VPL and will be responsible for the completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all VPL’s internal and external financial reporting including UK and Group’ audited statutory financial statements submitted annually to the Companies House. 

A key requirement for success in this role will be to promote a “One Visa” mindset across its stakeholders, encouraging a spirit of collaboration and building strong relationships.  Stakeholders range from other finance sub-functions to Risk, Compliance, Legal, Sales, Technology, global and regional teams, and many others.

What we expect of you, day to day.

  • Establishing and maintain the proper accounting policies under both US GAAP and IFRS, which dictate the proper accounting for VPL operations and Visa Global consolidation. 
  • Lead a team of accountants and subject matter experts to provide technical accounting analysis and guidance to the business.
  • Responsible for financial-close process; Deliver the monthly/quarterly/annual reporting to the US including document requests that support portions of Visa Inc’s 10-Q/K filings and other analyses.
  • Review monthly/quarterly/annual balance sheet and income statement analytics as part of the close.  Ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed and reported.
  • Prepare and deliver all statutory accounts including financial statements and required disclosures ensuring timely filing with regulators by deadlines.
  • Serve as main point of contact with VPL’s external auditors in the execution of financial reviews and audits.
  • Monitor and drive remediating activities to close control gaps and audit findings in the VPL Finance function, reviewing progress, elevating issues and concerns.  Coordinate audit and review activities with Internal Audit and Global Controllership teams to ensure procedures are completed in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Responsible for all tax reporting of VPL (e.g. VAT, Corporate Tax returns), maintaining relations and guidance from Global/VE Tax teams to enable compliance and synergy.
  • Ensure capital adequacy of VPL’s regulated entities, working with Treasury/FP&A to establish capital requirements and execution towards pre-defined capital injection plans
  • Prepare and present financial papers to the VPL Risk Committee and Board of Directors
  • Lead the VPL Corp Accounting activities to adopt the global policies and financial systems, including driving a change mindset and lead it by example.
  • Drive collaboration and support other finance sub-functions, namely VPL Finance Operations, Treasury, FP&A and Sourcing, through leadership and technical guidance or even direct execution of activities if needed.
  • Act as a project lead/sponsor to a variety of cross-functional or process enhancement projects where VPL Corp. Accounting is key stakeholder, including ideation, planning, leading and execution.
  • Promote the Visa Leadership Principles, leading by example.  Provide coaching, mentoring, and developmental feedback to direct report(s) and indirect reports helping to shape team culture and develop staff.

Qualifications

What we’re after…

  • ACA or ACCA qualification necessary, with a significant amount of progressive professional accounting experience, preferably in both a public accounting firm and a publicly listed company.
  • Thorough knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS, strong technical writing skills and experience in the implementation and handling of complex accounting matters with proven ability to research and clearly articulate and document complex technical accounting issues.
  • Extensive experience working with Financial Systems (Oracle, Sage) and expenses management tools (Concur, Ariba)
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to be able to “connect the dots” and approach issue resolution with a “forward-looking” view to anticipate and address problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent written, oral, listening and presentational skills and ability to work well under pressure and interact at all levels as a thought-partner.
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills and ability to apply sound judgment to facilitate problem identification, generate alternative solutions, adapt to changing situations and manage issues to a successful resolution.
  • Ability to set and keep deadlines at a fast pace without losing accuracy.
  • Capable of handling and prioritizing multiple tasks, possess good judgment and organizational skills, able to work independently and be flexible.
  • Experience in people management and leading others; ability to set the “tone” and provide coaching and mentoring to more junior staff
  • Teamwork is essential to the group, so it is critical that the candidate interact with other team members and managers collaboratively and effectively
