Job Description

What we expect of you, day to day.

  • Ensure the delivery of all technology initiatives using appropriate agile project management techniques, leading the community of practice for this role while building capability and excellence (in an agile, lean practice).
  • Work closely with stakeholders and delivery teams across the Programme to understand requirements, ensure a clear understanding of scope and priority of deliverables, and manage interdependencies across programs and/or portfolios.
  • Ensure that respective resources maintain initiative scope on time and within budget, enabling business growth and operational excellence.
  • Supports all Project and Programme managers and Scrum Masters with expertise, direction, motivation, and encouragement, working with other heads of roles to promote effective cross-functional delivery.
  • Maintain compliance with Visa's Project Management Methodology and Key Controls, in partnership with the remaining Technology team functions.
  • Maintain a strategic focus through ongoing dialogue with business partners, seeking to gain an understanding of key strategic objectives.
  • Develop the people and organisational processes to grow our internal talent, while also ensuring that third party supplied resources also maintain a continuous improvement model.
  • Create an environment that fosters openness, transparency, collaboration, and nurtures ideas and encourages diverse points of view.

  • Strong hands-on experience of Agile frameworks (e.g. Scrum, Kanban, SAFe), leading execution of project management techniques, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to coach, mentor and support other members of the engineering team, sharing technical and operational knowledge in a helpful and timely fashion.
  • Direct management experience with project/program managers and experience with managing and developing senior managers.
  • Strong leadership qualities and organisational skills as well as the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, assignments, and roles.
  • High level experience participating in and running technical delivery teams, preferably in the Financial Services domain.
  • Agile, SAFe, PMP and CSM certifications are preferred.
  • Solid exposure to the challenges of distributed systems, messaging and event driven architectures.
  • Experience with both APIs and integration projects.
  • Good understanding of release management particularly CI/CD pipelines, branching strategies and test automation.
  • Substantial/high level experience with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience of operating and influencing at a strategic level.
