What’s it all about?

The Data Solution Architect belongs to the Technology Solution Architecture team and is responsible for the development and maintenance of data related elements of the Visa Payments Ltd technology solutions. This spans a broad spectrum of services and uses based on the core business model supporting payment processing across file, message and API based integrations.

The Data Solution Architect is the recognised lead for all data related elements of technology change and delivery, where data stretches across most, if not all aspects of what the Technology team deals with. This can be pure technical data to support ongoing operations and change or business data to gain perspective and value from the information stored with anything in between. Hence the remit is extensive and requires a broad awareness and understanding of what data can provide for Visa Payments Ltd.

What we expect of you, day to day.

• Designing and delivering a data governance framework
• Create Blue Print of VPL Data Landscape
• Producing documentation and leading training sessions for datasets to ensure common and consistent understanding across the Technology team and across the organisation.
• Facilitating data-sharing agreements and other types of partnerships to gain the best possible benefit from the data assets in day to day processing and longer-term analysis.
• Defining requirements for new data software and applications in union with all Visa mandated standards across a suite of Technical Security Requirements, Data Storage and Retention policies and ongoing audits of the deployment, use and access to data.
• Support with delivery and migration of new data software and applications where change remains a constant and a continuous improvement cycle regime prevails.
• Support with defining data security and backup procedures in partnership will all business functions and the associated Visa governance on the management and storage of data.
• Design data models, flowcharts and data relationship diagrams for broader review, assessment and understanding across the organisation with facilitated review and explanation.
• Provide input into data management practices including data classification, data retention, data usage, data destruction, etc.
• An ability to build and maintain high performing ETL processes, including data quality and testing aligned across technology, internal reporting and other functional teams.
• Define and build data architecture for data warehouse and big data solutions (including data and dimensional modelling).
• Support with developing data architecture pipelines by gathering requirements and use cases and leveraging knowledge from market, external stakeholders and research.
• Establish lean data governance to drive data standards and data quality, support the solution architecture team with data-informed thinking and decision-making.

• Demonstrates an ability to lead, grow and develop high performance use of data across the broad suite of use cases.
• Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and suppliers.
• In-depth understanding of database structure principles across both relational and no-SQL database technologies e.g. Mongo, Cassandra.
• Strong Data modelling experience gathering, and analysing system requirements focused on the data elements across capture, processing, storage and distribution.
• Knowledge of data mining and segmentation techniques in step with current industry best practice and technical solutions.
• Expertise in core SQL and database technologies including DB2, MS-SQL
• Expertise in implementation of Big Data Environments using Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS)
• Experience in data migration projects
• Knowledge of TOGAF or other architectural frame works
• Familiarity with data visualisation tools, including Tableau, Mircostrategy, D3.js, R.
• Substantial experience participating in data solution design and usage role preferably within the Financial Services domain and technology solutions.
• Solid experience and knowledge of retail payment mechanisms globally and the associated payment schemes such as SWIFT, SEPA, Faster Payments etc.
• Strong Agile software development experience such as SCRUM, Kanban, SAFe, TDD, BDD.
• Bachelor’s degree with high level experience of managing technology change focused on data, likely fulfilled in the capacity of software engineering delivery, or equivalent professional experience.
