Job Description

What’s it all about?

The Technology Governance team maintains a keen focus on the delivery of all ongoing initiatives which are managed through the provision of Technical Programme and Project Managers plus Scrum Masters to maintain ongoing delivery in many scrum teams.

This specific function within the team ensures a consistent standard and approach is followed, with the Scale Agile Framework (SAFe) adopted as the preferred model. Training and support are provided by the team to ensure that all principles and the discipline of the method utilised and applied to all ongoing activities.

Collectively the team works closely with Product Management teams’ and the Technology Solution Delivery team to ensure delivery is maintained to plan, consistently applies necessary metrics and KPIs to monitor progress and maintain the high standards expected from all resources.

The Sr Manager, Technical Delivery is responsible for the delivery of major programmes and projects across many concurrent Technology initiatives. It plays a pivotal role to ensure high standards are kept and applied based on the SAFe methodology. This includes regular updates and refreshers with the respective resources plus a broader set of teams where their inclusion is vital to success.

This role requires deep knowledge of agile delivery methods with SAFe approach, both from a practical, hands on perspective and the application of the techniques across all accountable resources. The successful candidate will assess all demands for technology delivery and be able to deploy the appropriate models to ensure successful delivery and regular reporting to all interested parties throughout the delivery lifecycle.

 

What we expect of you, day to day.

  • Ensure the delivery of all technology initiatives using appropriate agile project management techniques, leading the community of practice for this role while building capability and excellence (in an agile, lean practice).
  • Work with delivery teams, utilising agile practices with a preference for the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and use of Kanban and Scrum in union with stakeholders to produce release plans and delivery schedules.
  • Work closely with stakeholders and delivery teams to understand requirements, ensuring a clear and common understanding of scope and priority of deliverables, manage interdependencies and impacts among projects and across programs and/or portfolios.
  • Ensure that respective resources maintain initiative scope on time and within budget, enabling business growth and operational excellence.
  • Supports all programme and project resources with expertise, direction, motivation, and encouragement, working with other heads of roles to promote effective cross-functional delivery.
  • Provides leadership to team members to optimise the delivery flow of teams and actively address the most complicated risks, issues, supporting and troubleshoot impediments to attain resolution.
  • Maintains compliance with Visa's Project Management Methodology and Key Controls, in partnership with the remaining Technology team functions.
  • Ensure delivery governance and management is maintained monitoring program budgets and management reporting across all current initiatives.
  • Create an environment that fosters openness, transparency, collaboration, and nurtures ideas and encourages diverse points of view.

Qualifications

What we’re after…

  • Deep knowledge of Agile and Lean practices. Can lead on a range of Agile and Lean tools and techniques, with an ability to coach within and outside of their team.
  • Strong hands-on experience of Agile frameworks (e.g. Scrum, Kanban, SAFe), leading execution of project management techniques, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Able to ensure the team has a situational awareness of what each other is working on. Ensures that working practices are iterated to achieve effective delivery.
  • A strong base in project/program management, financial and budget management in technology, technology consulting and technology processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to coach, mentor and support other members of the engineering team, sharing technical and operational knowledge in a helpful and timely fashion.
  • Strong relationship management skills across all stakeholders, able to mediate and mend relationships, communicating at all levels while managing stakeholders’ expectations and facilitating discussions across high risk and complexity or under constrained timescales.
  • Open to feedback, able to deal with ambiguity and work on multiple concurrent activities.
  • Able to work with and manage delivery teams that are geographically dispersed and across time zones.
  • Substantial experience participating in and running technical delivery teams, preferably in the Financial Services domain.
  • Good understanding of release management particularly CI/CD pipelines, branching strategies and test automation.
  • Bachelor’s degree with pertinent experience preferred.
  • Agile, SAFe, PMP and CSM certifications are preferred.
