The company

Our client is a growing and internationally operating quality company dedicated to the production of cuttings and young plants. The company is one of the top players in the world in this field and has representative offices and/or production subsidiaries in various countries in the world.

At its East African production locations it produces mother plants and cuttings. Year around national and international customers from the floriculture sector are being supplied with excellent starting material for a successful further cultivation. The modern greenhouse production companies in East Africa produce parental material of indoor plants, Pelargonium and a large variety of bedding plants.

Job Description

The position

You are responsible for the planning of production, processes and people at one of our clients’ production farms in East Africa geared at the production of young plants at expected quantities and quality.  

Important criteria for the performance is the security of timely supply and product quality of the young plants. In concert with the Crop Manager it is your challenge to make sure the young plants produced on the farm are of the same quality at the time of delivery.

In this function the biggest challenge is to coach, convince, motivate and encourage the people involved for their work and that is carried out in such way that the product quality and quantity is secured while reaching deadlines.

Additionally:

  • Responsible for coordination, knowledge input, planning, production,  quality level, research, training and improvement processes within the product group
  • In consultation with external parties examine and implement new production insights
  • Responsible for registration, documentation and administration

Qualifications

The requirements:

  • A greenhouse production background with emphasis on planning-, production- and people management
    • Affinity with plant science, plant physiology etc.
  • A minimum of 5 year experience with the management of people, in a preferably African context
  • Good communication, social and leadership skills in a multi-cultural context
  • Pro active mindset able to take decisions independently and accustomed to work accurately
  • A team player who gets people moving and enthused and who brings people together to become stronger
  • Good user knowledge of MS Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point.
  • Spoken and written command of English is a must
  • Experience with working in an overseas country is welcomed
  • Respect for the local culture
  • Prepared to settle in a south-, or east African country for min. five years
