Commissioning Engineer for Waste-to-Fuel Plant

Job Description

Pivot is seeking a Commissioning Engineer with a proven track record in small- and medium-scale factory startup, problem solving and trouble-shooting to commission Pivot’s first human-wasteto-fuel plant in Kigali, Rwanda. The successful candidate will be tasked with testing all equipment, commencing operations, developing standard operating and maintenance procedures, and training and transitioning plant operation to a local team.  

 This is the ideal position for someone looking to combine a rigorous engineering assignment, with a fast-paced startup environment, and the challenges and uncertainties of working in subSaharan Africa. This is a 4-month position with the possibility of extension. 


The key responsibilities include: 

• Inspecting and commissioning plant equipment; 

• Developing standard operating and maintenance procedures; 

• Developing overall production plan and associated staffing needs; 

• Designing compliance protocols with environmental, health, and safety standards for team members; 

• Designing and overseeing quality assurance and control protocols; and 

• Recruiting and training local team of plant operators, including management team and technicians.  

 

Key outcomes from the Commissioning Manager’s engagement include: 

• A production process design ready for implementation by local staff 

• The accompanying protocols and policies for safe implementation of said plan 

• Successful commissioning of all large equipment within the production process train 

• A complete production team hired and trained in proper operation of the plant 


Qualifications

Qualifications  

• B.S. in Engineering (e.g. Mechanical, Industrial, Civil, Chemical); 

• At least 5 years experience designing production processes and working in a production environment; 

• Experience commissioning at least three small- or medium-scale production plants preferred; 

• Proven experience hiring, training and building successful multi-cultural teams; • Demonstrated ability to trouble-shoot, problem-solve and make decisions on the spot; 

• Experience living and working internationally preferred.
