Headquartered in Kampala, Uganda and with a manufacturing facility in southwestern Uganda, AFRIpads currently employs over 140 staff across both locations. 

The company is in its sixth year of operation (est. 2010) and has proved itself as the leading supplier of reusable sanitary pads to girls and women in East Africa, with over 500,000 products sold since its inception and multiple local and international awards received for social entrepreneurship. The company has been profitable since 2013 and continues to expand rapidly at a rate of 50-100% per year, with over one million USD in revenue in 2014 and promising future growth prospects.

Job Description

AFRIpads is looking for a dynamic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with a passion for small business growth and economic development in Africa to join our team. This position is a unique leadership role in a fast-paced start up at the front lines of developing the Ugandan manufacturing industry and empowering women throughout the developing world.    

The CFO will collaborate with the Ugandan-based CEOs and COO, as well as the board of directors and other investors, primarily based in the Netherlands, advising on operational and corporate financial matters, including the development of strategic growth plans. In addition, the CFO will lead the accounting and administration staff of AFRIpads in improving internal controls, adding efficiency to administrative processes, and allocating capital effectively.  

Key Responsibilities 

• Collaborate with the CEO, COO and Investment team to create strategic growth plans and to develop the corporate finance strategies necessary to implement these plans 

• Manage and oversee all financial reporting and control, including the following tasks:

• Internal controls improvement and adherence 

• Operational cash flow management 

• Forecast and budget creation; reconciliation 

• Financial statement preparation 

• Tax and audit filings coordination 

• Banking relationship maintenance and account monitoring 

• Finance, accounting and administrative staff training and management 

• Best practices development and implementation 

• Develop and lead implementation of financial and administrative IT strategy 

• Oversee HR administration and payroll management 

• Maintain responsibility and oversight of AFRIpads legal concerns and services 

• Advise and collaborate with the management team on performance to budget, cash flow projections, and risks 

• Support strategic improvements to AFRIpads tax structure as well as transactions between parent and subsidiary 

• Lead and advise on AFRIpads’ risk management insights and operational insurance policies    

• Evaluate and engage with advisors as needed 

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience   

• B.A or B.S in Finance or Accounting, MBA preferred or equivalent experience 

• Experience building and being responsible for financial statements prepared for audit 

• Leadership and management experience in finance, preferably as a Controller, Finance Manager, Finance Director, or CFO in a small or medium sized business 

• Advanced proficiency in accounting software tools 

• Advanced quantitative analysis skills and proficiency in excel 

• Ability to manage, train and empower a multi-cultural team of finance and administrative staff 

• Strong references from past managers and auditors 

• Outstanding written and verbal communications skills (English) 

• Entrepreneurial spirit and collaborative nature 

• A passion for economic growth in Africa and the AFRIpads mission 


Highly Desired Skills   

• Certified Accountant Designation or CFA 

• Work experience with small to medium enterprises 

• Experience with enterprise resource planning systems 

• Financial modeling expertise for strategic growth
