The company we are recruiting for is a fast growing company that designs and markets solar products with a focus on consumers in emerging markets where access to electricity isn’t always available. For the company the South of Africa is an important market. The company manages the market from their offices in Johannesburg. 

Job Description

The company is looking for a Managing Director.

This role requires an independent thinking personality that at the same time is not afraid to do hands on work if needed. The person for this position comes from a marketing and sales background that is now ready for end-responsibility but most importantly has an inherent motivation that fits the DNA of the company. The team’s mission is to make a difference in people’s lives by designing quality products that are “life changers” for people in emerging markets.

General

• P&L responsibility and reporting to MD in Europe

• Lead the South African team of 5 people and expand it (mainly sales people)

• Maintain good contacts with governmental organisations and other partners

• Find strategic partners

• Contact with financial and legal advisors

• Cash Flow Management


Sales

• Set out the sales strategy

• Manage and expand the sales team

• Manage network of sales agents

• Manage large accounts

• Set up innovative sales models (e.g. rural or informal settlement retail)

• Coordinate government tenders

• Coordinate expansion into new countries


Marketing

• Set out the marketing and communication strategy

• Position the companies brand

• Social media strategy and execution

• Set up new supply structures (e.g. rural or informal settlement retail)

• Come up with creative ideas for retail clients


Examples of special projects and ad-hoc activities

• Represent the company on fairs and seminars

• Give presentations on conferences

• Organize sales support at events / promotions


Qualifications

• Experience in building, managing and expanding teams of people with different levels of experience and skills

• Able to set out and execute a marketing and sales plan

• Experience with brand positioning

• Not afraid to do groundwork if needed

• Able to bring USP’s across

• Extremely service oriented

• Good communication skills

• Flexible working approach

• Financial management

• Knowledge of legal and financial processes

Additional Information

Experience:

Minimal 5-7 years working experience in a product related marketing and sales environment


Reporting:

To Managing Director of the company


Salary and benefits:

Depending on experience and profile there will be a base salary, car allowance and an excellent commission structure.
