Job Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are looking for a motivated Automation Design Engineer Intern to support the design and development of automation solutions for manufacturing processes. This internship provides hands-on experience in tooling, fixture design, and workstation optimization to enhance production efficiency. The intern will work alongside experienced engineers, gaining practical knowledge in mechanical design, CAD modeling, and process improvement while contributing to real-world projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Engineering Support & Design
- Assist in the design and development of tooling, jigs, and fixtures for manufacturing automation.
- Support concept designs for component handling systems and workstation layouts.
- Create 2D/3D CAD models and technical drawings using SolidWorks or similar software.
- Conduct basic tolerance studies, GD&T analysis, and simulations to verify design accuracy.
Project Assistance
- Support engineering projects from concept to implementation under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Assist in project scheduling, documentation, and reporting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth execution of automation solutions.
- Coordinate with vendors for the procurement of engineering components and materials.
Process Improvement & Problem-Solving
- Help analyze and troubleshoot tooling, fixtures, and automation equipment.
- Participate in feasibility studies for new product transfers and process enhancements.
- Contribute to Lean Manufacturing initiatives and workspace optimization efforts.
Training & Technical Learning
- Gain hands-on experience in automation system design and manufacturing processes.
- Learn and apply GD&T principles, tolerance analysis, and mechanical design best practices.
- Work closely with senior engineers to develop technical and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
Required:
- Education:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Technical Skills:
- Basic proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
- Strong interest in mechanical design, automation, and engineering analysis.
- Basic understanding of GD&T, simulations, and tolerance studies (preferred but not required).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Good command of spoken and written English.
- Ability to work in a team environment and learn quickly.
Preferred:
- Basic knowledge of automation systems, robotic handling, or manufacturing processes.
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or ISO standards is a plus.
- Previous internship or project experience in automation or mechanical design (preferred but not required).
