Job Description

Summary of role

 

Responsible for designing and operate/maintain WiLine's wide area network as part of the WiLine Network Engineering team. Initially for four metros in California; San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego and Sacramento but also into other states as the company expands.

 

Primary responsibilities

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose network problems for routing, switching, security and datacenter implementations
  • Help develop technology roadmaps
  • Perform network modeling, analysis, and planning
  • Design, test, and inspect data communications systems
  • Install hardware such as cables, switches and routers
  • Analyze, engineer, and execute network software functions
  • Develop test plans, implementation plans, and project timelines for various projects
  • Liase with technology vendors
  • Stay abreast of how technology infrastructures are currently impacting and driving competitors
  • Determine and meet production provisioning requirements
  • Write functional requirements/specifications documents
  • Assess vendor development/test strategies
  • Upgrade network hardware and software components as required
  • Solve complex problems with many variables

Qualifications

Preferred Skillsets:

* 10+ years of direct engineering and design experience in the telecommunications and/or networking industry

*  Expertise in creating repeatable, reliable, scalable network architectures

* Solid technical writing skills

*  Ability to communicate in writing and in person

*  Must be able to work cohesively as a member of the team

*  Must be astute, highly self-motivated individual who is dependable and dedicated

*  Must be very familiar with networking features and protocols such as spanning tree, ARP, CDP, EIGRP, RIP, OSPF, BGP, VTP, Etherchannel, 802.1Q trunking, MLS, HSRP and QoS

*  Knowledge of MPLS/VPLS network design in a Cisco experience is a bonus

*  Cisco CCNA/CCIE certification is a bonus
