Job Description

Our legal team support all areas of Z’s business and ensures that enterprise legal risks are appropriately managed.  We enable and empower Z’s business outcomes within the law and protect Z’s licence to operate and keep our people safe.

As our Legal Counsel | Tohutohu Ture, you will enable the effective and integrated delivery of legal services to Z and to ensure enterprise legal risks are appropriately managed across the business to support Z’s strategy and ultimate delivery of our extraordinary outcomes.

You will have the opportunity to

  • Deliver legal advice and support which is commercial, clear, pragmatic and fit for purpose across all investment streams, including direct accountability for privacy, marketing, procurement
  • Build privacy/security considerations into legal work and build knowledge and capability across business
  • Provide legal contribution for Fuel Industry Act compliance and for managing reputational risks and customer complaints including any issues with relevant regulators

Qualifications

What you’ll bring to Z

  • You’re admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand with ideally 5 years’ experience PQE
  • You’re experienced - in general commercial law, company, privacy and consumer law is desired but not as essential
  • You’re able to build strong relationships across the business and communicate legal advice to wide variety of stakeholders in simple non-legal and informal terms
  • You add value by finding ways to make things better for the internal and external customers of Z, including up to date self-help tools, triage processes and other innovative efficient ways of providing legal advice in service of getting to market faster
  • You can systematically maintain, collect / gather information in order to drive Z toward positive results and improve legal outcomes
  • You have strategic business sense – you show an understanding of the strategy and the operating environment/industry.
