Job Description

We are looking for a Thermoplastic Composite Engineer to join our R&D team in our Composite Intermediates Facility in the Greater St. Louis area. The Thermoplastic Composite Engineer will report to the R&D Lab Director and will be responsible for compounding and injection molding of chopped carbon fibers, and unidirectional thermoplastic tape development.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Perform various testing of chopped carbon fibers
  • Optimize twin-screw compounding and injection molding
  • Process development of unidirectional continuous carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic tapes
  • Analyze results obtained from raw data
  • Organize and maintain data files and prepare technical reports and graphs
  • Search outside resources for properties improvement
  • Assist various projects, as required, by attaining test data, analyzing results, and preparing samples
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and professional environment in the laboratory

Qualifications

  • Minimum B.S. in Polymer Engineering or Material Science (M.S. degree preferred)
  • Practical experience in twin-screw compounding and injection molding of reinforced engineering thermoplastics
  • Industrial experience in film extrusion with single-screw extruder is desirable
  • Good mechanical aptitude for process optimization and calibrations
  • Knowledgeable of properties of engineering thermoplastics
  • Experience in laboratory environment utilizing lab and test equipment
  • Good communication skills, technical report writing skills
  • Motivated, team player, provides excellent customer support
  • Safety consciousness
  • Ability to think through complex processes. Training in DOE is preferred.
  • Computer skills: MS Office, instrumentation software
