Job Description

We are looking for a Network Operations Center Analyst. The job function of the NOC Analyst is to provide first-level monitoring and support for the Ancestry.com web site. As time permits, other assignments will be expected to be completed. This position requires working a combination of weeknights and weekends, working three 12 hour shifts per week. The weeknights shifts are from 7pm-7am, while the weekends would be either 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am. Some holidays would be included. This position will be responsible for live website monitoring, creating third party monitoring scripts and diagnosing and resolving basic OS and hardware issues. 

Key Responsibilities / Performance Requirements:

  • Central point of contact for all website problems during shift. 
  • Troubleshoot and solve a variety of technical issues related to computer systems and hardware (and associated software).
  • Perform system reboots and participate in failure diagnoses and repair.
  • Create Troubleshooting Guides to facilitate fast and accurate problem resolutions. 
  • Monitor company websites, network traffic, performance, availability, etc.
  • Create documents tracking "down time" and resolutions. 
  • Use Monitoring Tools to watch the production web sites.
  • Use Automation Tools to identify and resolve customer impact.
  • Follow hourly testing procedures to ensure viability of the production sites.
  • Follow regression testing procedures after production site changes.
  • Answer the web ops hotline and log call, solve problem if possible, and/or phone the on-call engineer.
  • Write reports and update next shift as defined by Web Operations personnel.
  • Create other scripts or software programs to be used for site monitoring and availability.
  • Collect and analyze website performance data and make recommendations for improving performance and efficiency.
  • Possess excellent people skills while working with various levels of the company.
  • Attention to detail with keen observation skills.
  • Create site monitoring scripts to be used with off-the-shelf site monitoring vendor software.
  • Create other scripts or software programs to be used for site monitoring and availability.
  • Ability to work alone when your co-worker is on vacation.

Qualifications

  • Working experience in a Network Operations Center.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related experience is preferred.
  • Familiar with data center operations and must be self-disciplined to accomplish in independent work load, as well as looking for issues and solving problems. 
  • Experience with Windows and Linux.
  • Ability to interpret and write SQL queries a plus.
  • Ability to work under pressure during site incidents.
  • Impeccable customer service attitude and skills.
  • Able to thrive in a team oriented environment.
  • Someone who likes working in small cross function groups.
  • Ability to work independently and with no supervision.
