Internship Project Description
This is what you will do…
As a junior user researcher intern at Ancestry, you’ll work closely with other researchers, designers, customers, and product managers to test hypotheses about our audience and validate new product designs, as well as support regular ongoing research activities. You’ll work directly on Ancestry products and will collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to:
- Coordinate and execute user research plans (including recruitment, scheduling, compensation, and technical prep)
- Lead customer interviews and observation sessions
- Test design prototypes
- Compile and maintain documentation and recordings
- Coordinate internal research communications
We’re looking for someone who has a desire to grow a career in the field of user experience research. You’ll get direct, hands-on experience with shaping product design activities at Ancestry, as well as learn research methods from our team of seasoned researchers.
You are an empathetic people person with a keen observer’s eye and an inquisitive spirit. Your project management is sharp as a tack, and you regularly find ways to streamline process. You genuinely enjoy listening to and learning from others and see feedback as an opportunity to grow. You are a champion for objectivity and are not afraid to question your own biases or speak up for the truth. You thrive in environments where you support several projects and many competing priorities simultaneously. You are good at breaking down and analyzing complex concepts and are effective at communicating them to a diverse audience.
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s or Ph.D. level degree
- Must be currently enrolled in a university and graduating after Summer 2018
- Background in anthropology, psychology, or sociology or other social science or related field
- Basic experience with qualitative or quantitative research, data analysis, Q/A testing, engineering or another analytical field
- Basic experience conducting research for user experience, marketing, human factors, or human-computer interaction projects is a plus.
- A desire to grow a career in the field of user experience research
- Understanding of good experimental design (controlled variables, statistical significance, etc)
- Understanding of basic psychological principles (confirmation bias, primacy effect, etc)
