Job Description

Ancestry is seeking an exceptional, passionate and motivated Engineering Manager to join our Central Quality Engineering team. The Central Quality Engineering team is a small but influential cross-enterprise team at Ancestry. We provide best practices, tools, and standards for all Ancestry’s development teams including 40+ Quality Engineers.

This is a hands-on Senior Manager who will manage one of three central teams, build tools, and provide quality leadership to Ancestry’s development teams. Collaborating with other cross-enterprise teams, you will help define, evangelize and execute to continually improve the quality of Ancestry products for our customers.

You will…

  • Provide leadership to your team of Software Quality Engineers, identifying opportunities for technical advancements, and owning their delivery.

  • Help establish and communicate Ancestry’s quality vision, strategies and programs to mature the practices and culture of the Development organization.

  • Champion new and evolving quality and testing concepts, capabilities, and practices, drawing upon industry best practices.

  • Provide mentoring and empower members of the broader Quality organization to become “force multipliers” in driving quality capabilities and culture.

  • Collaborate with software developers, product owners, architects to plan, design, develop and test tools to benefit the developers and quality engineers on other development teams.

  • Analyze and resolve technical related issues from other teams for their automated tests

  • Own the research, evaluation, deployment and upgrades for 3rd party tools (e.g., SonarQube, Sauce Labs).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field required.

  • 3+ years leadership of a quality engineering and/or development team

  • 8+ years of testing and test automation experience, testing multi-tier applications and services, including: Reactive Web, Micro Service and Business Tiers, the Data Tier, and Mobile.

  • Mastery of functional test principles, practices and tools specifically related to automation, pipeline integration, quality gates, and systems integration. This includes system level functional testing, where customer centric testing occurs to ensure continued delivery of user flow.

  • Proven experience leading Test Engineering/QA and Automation disciplines and teams within an organization.

  • Experience with AWS, it’s technologies, and the risks involved in delivering reliable and resilient systems in a cloud environment.

  • Experience with frameworks - Spring or Express preferred

  • Working knowledge of Selenium and Sauce Labs

  • Unit and Integration testing principles, practices and tools, in context of Agile Development practices and product delivery through a CI/CD pipeline.
