Job Description

Ancestry is seeking a life sciences attorney with 3-7+ years of relevant experience. This position will be based in Ancestry’s San Francisco office and will report to the Associate General Counsel of AncestryDNA.  Ancestry is a fast-growing company at a pivotal time in its trajectory. This attorney will be responsible for supplying sound legal advice on regulatory and compliance matters, as well as drafting and negotiating relevant contracts.

Specific responsibilities will include: 

  • Advising internal business partners on applicable regulatory frameworks as they pertain to product development, launch and commercialization, as related to genomics or genetic testing, including applicable laws and regulations
  • Negotiating, drafting and executing various contracts pertaining to the business, including marketing agreements, supply agreements, lab agreements, data use licenses, and non-disclosure agreements, among others
  • Reviewing, drafting and implementing company policies and procedures to reflect best practice
  • Effectively communicating legal concepts, recommended courses of action and legal risks to business leaders
  • Staying up-to-date on laws and regulations pertaining to the business in order to fully support commercial transactions
  • Other duties may be assigned and include some administrative functions

 

Qualifications

 

  • JD from an accredited law school
  • Admission to a State Bar
  • 3-7+ years of relevant legal experience
  • Training in a leading national law firm, with experience gained in the medical device, biotech, life sciences, laboratory, or genetic testing space
  • Experience advising on applicable regulatory frameworks, including FDA, HIPAA, GINA, state and federal genetic or laboratory testing regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, to take on big challenges and complex projects, and to be accountable for results
  • Ability to meet demanding deadlines and balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Sound and practical business judgment and the ability to provide business-oriented, practical legal advice
  • A problem-solving approach focused on achieving results that benefit Ancestry’s business as well as the business of its customers and partners
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work with little oversight, strategic thinker and decisive, trusted advisor with strong attention to detail
