Job Description

The Supervisor in EDI is responsible for supporting teams of Systems Analysts and Developers as they develop EDI solutions to integrate with Expeditors’ trading partners in accordance with Agile principles.   A Supervisor will typically have 6 - 8 direct reports.  You will be expected to lead, train, mentor, and coach your team.  You will collaborate with business owners and other stakeholders to bring on new projects and support your team as they schedule work, improve processes, and deliver EDI solutions.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

People

  • Mentor, coach, and support your direct reports on career development.
  • Timely address operational and personnel issues.
  • Identify and develop the next generation of leaders.
  • Conduct regular performance and compensation reviews.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with your direct reports.
  • Build meaningful connections with direct reports.

Team

  • Review resumes, conduct interviews, and execute hiring plan to staff team.
  • Foster a healthy and positive team culture.
  • Ensure the team is well rounded with experience and skillsets.
  • Actively participate in leadership activities; goals planning, department initiatives, and internal development projects.
  • Conduct team meetings, clearly present ideas, and effectively communicate information.

Operations

  • Facilitate Agile development teams as a servant leader as they develop EDI solutions by:
    • Empowering Self-Organization
    • Communicating context and purpose
    • Supporting the team as they encounter impediments
    • Actively contribute to the team
    • Advocating for the team with management
    • Fostering relationships with other teams
    • Ensuring healthy communities of practice
  • Support and collaborate with Agile development teams through the retrospective process as they:
    • Assess and make changes to the development life cycle to improve productivity
    • Reduce risk
    • Minimize roadblocks
    • Reduce duration
    • Improve quality
  • Approach investment decisions - whether it is time, money, resource allocations or others - with a return on investment mindset.
  • Communicate effectively with a wide spectrum of technical and non-technical stakeholders in both written and verbal formats.
