Job Description

Inbound Freight: 

  • Count and weigh all product
  • Compare shipment count to manifest and check for damage, shortage, overage, and any other discrepancies
  • Report shortages, damages, and/or discrepancies on appropriate forms.
  • Safely move product to assigned storage locations

Storage: 

  • Maximize space usage
  • Properly and safely, put away items onto racks, locations, and/or ready rows using company system and scripts 

Outbound Freight: 

  • Compare quantity, labeling, and address with order to ensure outgoing shipments are complete and correct
  • Maintain proper documentation per standard operating procedures
  • Efficiently load product into outbound delivery vehicles per manifest

Facility / Equipment: 

  • Maintain equipment and ensure warehouse areas are neat, clean, and orderly
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently
  • Comply with all local, OSHA, and Expeditors’ standards.

Cargo Screening:

  • Operation of x-ray and trace detection machines
  • Responsible for identifying dangerous objects in cargo and preventing those objects from being transported onto aircraft with Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) equipment 
  • Visual and physical inspection of cargo
  • Lifting/carrying freight (weighing up to 75 pounds).

Inventory: 

  • Keep accurate records and reports.
  • Assist in physical inventories and cycle counts.
  • Data entry, as needed

Other Duties:

  • Repack or re-box product per customer instructions.
  • Repair and re-box damaged goods as required.
  • Secure shipment with appropriate shrink-wrap and/or banding as assigned
  • Execute updates in computer system via operational tools provided.
  • Continuously and effectively interact with various agents: cargo, airline, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Customs/Border Protection (CBP), giving instructions and responding to inquiries in a reasonable tone and manner.

Security: 

  • Ensure all necessary federal and company guidelines are completed for TSA and CCSF requirements
  • Know and understand employee responsibility in Expeditors’ contingency plan
  • Demonstrate diligence required to maintain security under the Airport Police, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and United States Customs/Border Protection (USCBP) Regulations.
  • Approach any and all persons not displaying an Expeditors I.D. badge within an Expeditors warehouse or any Designated Screening Area (DSA) and implement security measures

Qualifications

Physical Demands/Working Environment:

  • Lift and carry freight weighing up to 75 lbs using proper techniques
  • Movements including but not limited to bending, reaching, stooping, squatting, standing, crouching and walking using proper techniques
  • Tolerate moderate to loud level of noise in work environment
  • May be required to work in cold storage areas
  • Stand and remain standing for periods up to 3 hours without sitting
  • May be required to work all of the following: irregular hours and/or shifts, including split-shifts; holidays and weekends; overtime; and extended hours.
  • This is a swing shift position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Desired):

  • Fluent in English
  • Mental abilities (e.g., visual observation and identification, mental rotation)
  • Interpersonal skills (e.g., customer service, dependability)
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic and mathematics
  • Knowledge of airline codes, prefixes, common cargo abbreviations
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Ability to work as an effective team member
  • Ability to obtain Fork-lift certification as required

 

Cargo Screener Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent; OR at least one year of full-time work experience in security work, aviation screener work, or x-ray technician work
  • Must possess clean driving record and valid driver’s license (DMV print-out required)
  • Ability to drive a forklift (training will be provided)
  • Must provide proof of the legal right to work in the United States such as: passport, birth certificate or work permit/visa.
