Job Description


Reporting to Vice President, Risk, General Counsel and Governance Officer, the Legal Counsel is a member of the Legal department with Edmonton Airports. The Legal Counsel will be accountable for providing timely, accurate and comprehensive legal advice, guidance and support to all Business Units within Edmonton Airports. The Legal Counsel will be focused on regulatory and corporate commercial work with an emphasis on commercial leasing/licensing and privacy.



  • Law degree from an accredited university

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in either a law firm or in-house counsel position

  • Strong background in commercial leasing/licensing and privacy

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Provide legal advice to the Senior Management Team, management and staff

  • Provide legal advice and guidance related to claims affecting the corporation including instructing and monitoring external legal counsel and external adjusters in relation thereto

  • Provide advice and ongoing education about legal issues affecting the corporation

  • Assist as required in the review of and recommend changes to legal department practices, processes, and rules to ensure they are up to date and in compliance with legislation and best practices 

  • Manage and review external counsel and evaluate their performance, quality of work, and costs on behalf of the other business units as requested
  • Coordinate effective management of corporate legal and business risk through timely and appropriate identification, assessment and mitigation of legal and business risks

  • Superior communications-related computer skills are required, including MS Office, Outlook and the ability to quickly learn new technologies
