Role Overview

The primary purpose of the Product Owner role is to define the functionality required for one or more products. The Product Managers will define and manage the product roadmaps with the Product Owners providing detailed knowledge about specific areas of the products.

A Product Owner should have a product definition or business analysis background. A Product Owner must be able to define a forward view of what the products should be in the future, understanding the customer domain rather than defining what a customer requires today.

A Product Owner must define functional changes in a detailed and systematic manner, this will include writing User Stories and defining Information Models.

The product owner should be an excellent communicator, able to collaborate and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels. Actively seeks feedback, gathering and evaluating ideas and opinions, using a positive approach to inspire and enthuse users of the product.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

• To research and analyse detailed aspects of a assessing any capability gaps domain (competitors/ customer needs) and identifying future growth opportunities that add value to the commercial proposition as directed by a Product Manager.
• Ability to conceptualize a business or technical solution, leveraging colleagues and partners.
• The ability to ensure a consistent whole product while defining individual parts.
• Responsible for defining and owning the detailed product definition, producing the User Stories, non-functional requirements (security, resilience, etc) and information models.
• Creating & Innovating. Produces new ideas, approaches, or insights; Creates innovative products or designs; Produces a range of solutions to problems; Seeks opportunities for organisational improvement; Devises effective change initiatives.
• Be responsible for conveying market needs to the team by refining the backlog based on business value
• Assess value, develops cases, and prioritize stories, epics and themes to ensure work focuses on those with a maximum value that are aligned with product strategy.
• Be accountable for the independent delivery of value to customers and stakeholders by ensuring that the right product is defined, prioritised, and built
• Communications with stakeholders including business managers, and the engineering teams to ensure the features are agreed and all parties are aware of progress.
• Responsible for preparing and delivering product presentations that showcase the product capability and demonstrate new ideas and features to stakeholders.
• Attend all Sprint planning sessions, stand-ups, and retrospectives for teams they are the Product Owner of.
• Ensures traceability of requirements to deliverables

• Creative thinker with the ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical people who may or may not know the domain concerned.
• Worked as a product owner in large complex product that was launched successfully and achieved on its ROI metrics
• Decisive, with a preference for data-driven decisions
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of customers, executives, managers, and subject matter experts
• Exceptional writing skills with an ability to define functionality without ambiguity.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• An ability to own a deliverable, ensuring exceptions are managed as they occur.
