TonerCycle/InkCycle produces and distributes its line of aftermarket toner and inkjet cartridges throughout North America from Lenexa, Kansas.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Create and implement processes for new product design and development. Conducts research, design and development of new products and test all aspects of mechanical or electromechanical components, equipment, and machinery.

Reports to the R&D Manager.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Standardize product development processes and ensure correct up-to-date technical information is readily available.

Support the design, install and commission of new production units, monitor modifications and upgrades.

Ensure product development processes work at the optimum level.

Conduct the design, integrity, safety and market competitiveness of products.  This entails insuring printer cartridges are designed to meet cost targets, quality/performance objectives and consumer satisfaction.

Conduct new product development from conception to launch.

Recommend design or test methods and statistical process control procedures for achieving required levels of product reliability.

Ensure environmental testing requirements are met by specifying minimum number of samples to obtain statistically valid data.

Develop and document reliability predictions and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA’s) on electronic and mechanical equipment, develop and document safety related analysis, maintenance reports and assist in creating component maintenance manuals for mechanical equipment.

Define and provide production throughput and rates to achieve manufacturing standards and production activity.

Identify key process parameters such as pressure, flow, temperature, speed/rate, timing, position, stroke of components and their impact on the process; analyze relationships between input variables and outputs; identify key tolerances of input variables and key capacity constraints.

Design, install and commission new production units, monitor modifications and upgrades, and troubleshoot existing processes.

Assist in transfer technology and training development delivery and qualification.

Write SOPs and ensure they are up-to-date.

Coordinate initiative delivery from front end engineering to start up and validation.

Participate in and provide input during Feasibility and Early Conceptual phases of initiative/capital project; identify the cost and time constraints of projects.

Collaborate with suppliers to optimize products during their development – find solutions for reducing cost, improving design integrity.

Keep team and management informed about project status.

Confer with management and engineering staff to implement plans and recommendations.

Provide engineering support with respect to product cost reductions, quality improvements and feature enhancements to maintain or increase market share and company profitability.

Determine feasibility of developing a new product or modifying existing equipment considering costs, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors.

Analyze product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs which can be produced by existing manufacturing processes and methods.

Create bill of material, detailed instructions for production of new part, specification for packaging, external supplier specification to provide standard cost structure and instructions for manufacturing.

Perform design reviews and failure mode/effects analysis.

Prepare detailed project cost estimates. Prepare quotations utilizing supplier information, cost standards, technical information from quality, manufacturing engineering, design.

Interface with equipment suppliers and vendors.

Develop product schedules.

Assist with and coordinate manufacturing or building of prototype equipment.

Compile and analyze operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or product.

Plan and develop experimental test programs.

Ensure safety and housekeeping practices are followed.

Comply with all Company policies and procedures.

Responsible to follow housekeeping and safety policies and procedures.

Care for company assets.

Perform duties as required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.  A minimum of 2-3 years project management/new product development required.  A minimum of 2 years exposure to tooling, manufacturing environment and utilization of engineering principles.  Experience in creating product performance specifications and 2D/3D product documentation is required.  Experience with SPC and Design of Experiments is preferred.  Minimum 5 years remanufacturing experience preferred.

Skill:  Effective organizational skills including the ability to prioritize and plan work.

Capable of managing multiple projects at various stages of planning, design, procurement and construction.  Proficient in Microsoft email, Word, Excel and CAD skills required.  Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing with supervisors, colleagues and individuals inside and outside the company. 

Able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals in English.
