Length of Engagement: Direct Hire - Full Time Employee

Position Description:

Cradle to grave mechanical design of tactical communication products. The primary technology is sheet metal enclosure of COTs and Custom Electronics into small, lightweight, and rugged packages.
- Concept Phase: Rapid concept designs of multiple alternatives. Communicate with engineering, sales, and customers the alternatives and tradeoffs associated with different approaches
- Implementation Phase: Detailed design in a small team environment. Includes design, generation of fabrication drawings, prototype assembly, test, and design modifications
- Support Phase: Support continuous improvement and problem solving in the factory. Modify design drawings to implement changes.
Working knowledge of forced convection and conduction cooling of electronics
Vendor liaison
Support engineering releases and revisions
Analyze failures and recommend corrective action
Hands on prototype validation
Develop test plans, fixtures and conduct testing (thermal, vibration, shock…)
Check engineering drawings and evaluate tolerances
Create assembly and part drawings
Ability to work with component vendors and outside manufacturing contractors to resolve process and design issues
Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and implement solutions quickly
Conduct internal design reviews and interface directly with customer and internal departments regarding product requirements and details
Hands on involvement with manufacturing group evaluating prototypes of new products and implementing improvements in the design for manufacturability



7 years of advanced design of mechanical/ electro-mechanical assemblies
Advanced 3D CAD and mechanical design. Deep SolidWorks expertise is required.
High level of expertise in sheet metal design and fabrication techniques
Knowledge of thermal / vibration design
Working knowledge of fasteners, press-in hardware, adhesives and assembly methods
Knowledge of materials (aluminum, plastics, copper …) and finishes (anodizing, painting, plating…)
Experience with cable harnesses, wiring and cable management products
Knowledge of UL requirements for safety of electronic assemblies. Wire size, wire type, terminals and crimping requirements, electrical terminations
Ability to multi-task and manage various project related duties
Ability to work in a small team environment where flexibility and a wide breadth of skills are required.
Knowledge of Bill of materials structure and documentation standards (ANSI Y14.5)

Preferred Experience:

Experience with Injection molding, Thermoform, and Machined parts is a plus
Understanding of product design for outdoor environments. Military product design highly desirable
Familiar with Mil-Std-810
