Job Description

1.   Test physical and chemical properties of drilling fluids

a)  Run TWO complete drilling fluids tests as a minimum of a daily basis, regardless of the operation of the drilling rig.

b)   Test drilling fluids on a specialty check basis as required by customers. e.g.: mud up, logging and casing checks, etc.

c) Test drilling fluids more often if conditions require it.

 

2.   Recommend maintenance of the drilling fluid

a)   Recommend maintenance procedures for the rig crew to follow using the results of your fluid test and submit recommendation in writing and keep a copy for the record (should include rig name, well name, date and time).

b)   Be proactive and recommend pretreatment procedures for possible problems. e.g.: Salt, CO2, H2S, pressures, Anhydrite, reactive clays or shale.

c)     Recommend mud property changes to be made for a specific operation going on or planned. Any changes to the mud system must be approved by Aramco drilling engineer.

 

3.   Maintain inventory

a)   Co-ordinate the onsite inventory and report weekly used materials to the Field Supervisor, Aramco mud advisor and Aramco drilling Forman.

b)   Perform an onsite inventory daily & report two times weekly (Sunday & Thursday) for all big bags & disposal big bags to Field Supervisor, including the condition of each big bag.

c)   Order drilling fluid chemicals from the warehouse in a timely manner. Rush orders should only be required if there is an unforeseen problem on the well site.  Use proper order forms.

d)   Be aware of your warehouse inventory and if a product is going to be required that may be low or not in stock, inform the Operation Manager, Field Supervisor and Aramco rig Forman.

e)   Send inventory for all material in hand in daily basis.

 

4.   Coordinate drilling fluid supervision

a)  Co-ordinate drilling fluid supervision with the Drilling Supervisor.

b) Communicate with the Drilling Supervisor so that you can be on location when a specialty check is required.

c)   Notify your field supervisors with any new product or new trial at your rig.

 

5.   Communicate with the rig crews

a)    Ensure that your recommendations are being followed by communicating with the driller’s, derrick men or mixing crews (always in writing to avoid misunderstanding and or miscommunication).

b)   Be aware of the mixing capabilities of the mud system being used.

c)      Inform the rig crews of which chemicals should be used first. e.g.: use the broken sacks of gel.

d)    Discuss mixing procedures with the driller’s and derrick men.

e)    Check with the rig crews to determine if your recommendations are giving the desired results.

 

6.   Communicate with the head office

a)     Report to the Field Supervisor daily via telephone, or e-mail, on the operations of the rig’s you are servicing; with operator, location, rig, status, cost, rentals, and new any advice for using new system and mud properties. 

b)      Report to the office as soon as there is a problem on one of your locations and update the office as the operation progresses.

c)     Inform the Field Supervisor OR Operations Manager of any changes that are made to the existing mud program before the change is made (any changes must be approved by Aramco).

d)   Mud Engineers has to be in direct contact with his mud supervisor before using and new products.

7.     Be responsible for company equipment

a)   Report any problems noted regarding vehicles. e.g.: mud flaps missing, flat tire, etc. 

b)    Ensure that all mud testing equipment is adequately stocked and maintained.

c)    Report any automobile accidents immediately to your HSE supervisor. 

e)  Report hazards and near misses on a regular basis. Be sure you are always on the lookout for dangerous situations. Always protect yourself and others.

8. Lab:

Make sure rig lab and calibration done and keep it clean and safely run, keep record for calibration and for reagent as well also be sure that the calibrated done each 3 month and fix sticker by calibration date, expiration date and calibrated by.
