Senior Cisco Network Engineer

Responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, coordinating, and overseeing all technical requirements as they relate to the data centers and the company widenetwork infrastructure. The Network Engineer is an integral part of the Information Technology Department and is responsible for the ongoing administration, technical support, security, and functional operation of the company data centers and the associated network infrastructure. To be successful in this role, the employee must be able to work effectively in a fluid, fast-paced environment. This role requires excellent communication skills, both with team members and business contacts at different levels.
All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with policies, procedures, guidelines, contractual commitments and governmental regulations.
Design, integrate and implement new infrastructure systems into the environment.
Evaluate new technologies to determine advantages / disadvantages of potential solutions.
Develop and implement infrastructure optimization, technology roadmaps and implement solutions for infrastructure performance issues
Participate in technology mentoring process to train and coach all data center engineers, architects and NSE*s in order to strengthen their current knowledge and performance.
Produce weekly reports on the status of all equipment and projects that are active within the group.
Provide backup support for all other data center staff members as needed.
Develop and maintain standards to effectively monitor system performance.
Maintain configuration files according to disaster recovery procedures
Maintain and execute security policies.
Develop and maintain data center documentation, business continuity plans and verifies that these documents are correct and up to date.
Make recommendations to senior IT personnel on the most cost-effective technical solutions during project design and implementation.
Provide and/or update project plans for all new and changing projects.
Participate in the strategic initiatives of the various technical areas with the objective of ascertaining the business impact to the established programs and technology infrastructure.
Co-ordinate all downtime and service impacting activities with the various stakeholders.
Coordinate RCA and Purchase orders for equipment and materials required in maintaining an effective department.
Recognizes and identifies potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, and make recommendations in these areas.
Fulfills departmental requirements in terms of providing work coverage and administrative notification during periods of personnel illness, vacation, or education.
Observes and evaluates subordinates and work procedures to ensure quality standards are met, policies and procedures are followed and safety precautions are observed.
Associate or BS or BA degree in computer science, engineering or related experience is desired.
5+ years IT experience in an enterprise environment working with an integrated infrastructure of LANs, WANs, fiber switches, interconnectivity devices and a windows based infrastructure
Strong understanding and demonstrated working knowledge of Cisco switches, routers, firewalls and VPN equipment
Strong knowledge and understanding of Windows Server environment, including standard services, protocols, and applications
Experience with Microsoft and Cisco Unified Communications deployment and architecture and background in HP servers and enterprise storage.
Knowledge of various IT disciplines and the inter-relationship between them.
Project management skills and the ability to use Microsoft Project.
Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Excellent analytical and organizational skills are necessary for this position
Ability to work independently with limited supervision
Ability to work well with people from different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Certification: CCNA, CCNP or other IT certifications desired.
