Job Description

Prepares and maintains Star Tribune’s COGNOS planning and reporting system, which facilitates Star Tribune’s forecasts and budgets for operating and capital plans.  Works with business unit finance leaders to manage the planning process and is a resource on technical issues.  This position is responsible for capital planning and tracking processes.  Develops and improves systems to facilitate improved financial information for both planning processes.  Also, this position is responsible for facilitating the monthly close and for managing, forecasting and tracking the financial and business performance for certain business units.

Qualifications

  • College degree in accounting or finance required; MBA, CPA or CMA a plus 
  • 7 + years of professional business experience, preferably including managerial responsibilities.  Experience must include work in a central group (planning or budgeting); strategy, business or financial planning; and operations (business unit/product line) experience.  Experience with business plan and financial plan design critical.  News or media industry background helpful.
  • Proven skills, including report writing, with planning software (COGNOS, Hyperion, etc.), and advanced Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.  PeopleSoft skills, including report writing, a plus.
  • Ability to coordinate planning cycles among different business units and company management
  • Proven leadership skills, preferably in a managerial role
  • Business acumen, analysis and financial skills critical
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organization skills; ability to work in a flexible, team environment
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
