Job Description

We’re looking for energetic, self-starting reporters with an eye for thoughtful, interesting and occasionally surprising stories about life in the Twin Cities suburbs, an assortment of high-profile areas where most of our readers live. These reporters will mix spot news, general assignment news, insightful enterprise stories, off-the-news profiles and occasional features. These reporters should be comfortable establishing relationships with city officials and community leaders, and be able to quickly scan agendas to spot story ideas. 
These reporters will spend about half of their time on general assignment stories and the other half mining a beat that covers specifics municipal bodies such as city councils and county commissions. 
These reporter will be responsible for a wide range of coverage, from stories for our weekly Extra sections to high-impact stories for the A and B covers.

These positions are covered under our contract with the Newspaper Guild. Compensation for these positions varies based on experience. First-year reporters would make $36,730. A reporter with at least five year's experience would make at least $69,152.

Qualifications

These reporters must have demonstrated a keen ability to spot trends, pursue news and to move smoothly between daily and enterprise assignments. We are looking for experienced journalists who have demonstrated an ability to produce compelling and sophisticated stories. They must be able to collaborate with other reporters and editors. These position requires solid news judgment, creative story ideas, an aggressive approach to news and an understanding of how photos and graphics work in telling a story. These journalists must value diversity in reporting and writing. The quality of the clips you submit will be the biggest factor in your candidacy.
