We are seeking aggressive, experienced political writers for possible openings on the Star Tribune's pol/gov team at the state Capitol Bureau. These reporters will be responsible for covering a wide variety of topics related to the legislature, state government, candidates and their campaigns, and issues.
This is a highly competitive, fast-paced and at times unrelenting beat. Reporters on this team are expected to land on Page 1 frequently, with a mix of stories that includes breaking news, profiles, and insightful analysis.
Each reporter on this team must be a team player and a strong, fast, fair-minded writer who can capture not only what's happening at the Capitol, but how it's playing with taxpayers, the business community and others.
This position is covered under our contract with the Newspaper Guild. Compensation varies based on experience. A reporter with at least five years' experience would make at least $69,152.

At least 10 years of reporting experience and a demonstrated track record of covering politics and government or other complex topics with depth, writing skill, and ambition.
Candidates must also be adept at digital and video coverage, including daily blogging. Strong social-media presence and skills also a plus.
